Maybe an evolutionary thing, doesn't have to be aliens and all that.

"We will merge with their culture, marry their women, and then their problems will be ours".....waitwhat? Aliens merging with our species and not the other way around...wtf?
......................

Seriously though, how do you spell the city/region where this kid is from? I ask because there was an article some ways back about european ancestory discovered in the most western regions of China, presumably from the Greeks and/or Romans...

Maybe just an Alien thing, doesn't have to be evolution and all that

Anyways the PLA Special Forces probably have their "eyes" in this kid already

There was article that came out just last week saying that eyes are the only organ that does not age and they do emit (really really small) amount of light. This is for normal humans. Maybe a genetic modification as made this enhancement.

Yeah no. This is interesting but in no way can you call that kid a "starchild" or an "alien hybrid".

I expected to see someone that looked like that so called "starchild" skull that was found. What a misleading title for that vid and this thread.

cm'on, it's just a kid with BLUE eyes. One a gene pool of 1.5 billion that's perfectly normal even if dark colored eyes are the rule in that pool. Luckily he doesn't live in the Middle-Ages, he's either been turned into a semi-god or tortured to death dependent of the local idiots.

x2, plus the kid's mothers affairs should be matter of concern only to the immediate family.

eyes DO age, wait until you get past 60 and see the increases in cataract, glaucoma or Age-related macular degeneration (AMD)

they don't emit light but the retina is photosensitive and that triggers a ion (nerve impulse) to the brain which analyses it.

The only "emitted" light is by reflection (red eyes in photos taken by flash)

Could be anything, jumping into the "itīs an alien !!!" conclusion first is silly and more apropriate to the judgement day channel .. ops, sorry, I meant History Channel.

yes yes I know, but I read this the other day:

http://www.greenmedinfo.com/article/spontaneous-and-visible-light-induced-ultraweak-photon-emission-rat-eyes

Here, we present the first experimental in vitro evidence of the existence of spontaneous and visible light-induced ultraweak photon emission from freshly isolated whole eye, lens, vitreous humor, and retina samples from rats. These results suggest that the photochemical source of retinal discrete noise, as well as retinal phosphenes, may originate from natural bioluminescent photons within the eyes.

Those ancient people dont have anything to do with Romans or Greeks.

Most of you don't see the military potential of this consider the amounts spent on Infra red / cam's scope for night visibility .. for anyone that has perfect visibility in the dark ..

Please enlighten us on the military potential of one child who can see in the dark, that isn't cutting his eyes out and tranplanting them onto the People's Liberation Army's equivalent to Rambo

From what I remember from taking biology in College is that blue eyes can come about in two ways:

1) Genetic defect. Green, Yellow, and Brown eyes are caused by pigmentation like with skin colour. If both parents are brown eyed then the child will be brown eyed too unless its a genetic defect and the gene doesn't act the way it should.

2) One brown eyed parent and one blue eyed parent can have a blue eyed child in a 50% chance. Provided one of the parents of the brown eyed parent had blue eyes.

it is possible it could somehow have come over European ancestry but more likely it has nothing to do with them. Blue is just the default colour of the iris in every human being, only appearing if you don't have any pigmentation being expressed in the genes.

A soldier that has the ability of seeing clearly in the dark without the need for night vision aid's has the advantage ... if you can't understand that point as it stands the human eye cannot see clearly in the dark without having to use EQ ..

This kid with having the ability to see clearly in the dark will interest those in the chinese military and the scientific community at large ..and even the US military would love there soldiers to have this ability.

Research is the best option, Not necessarily they will cut out the Eyes..
This is a good finding, The kid genes are unique not necessarily the blue part but Number of cones in retina..

This is a typical Eye diagram, there are two major cells, Rods & Cones..

Rod cells: Mainly use in Day light and common in most Humans..
Cone cells: Mainly use for color difference and Night Vision..

The Kid have more Cone cells compare to rods regardless what the eye color is..

Alien? Starchild? A person has to be seriously retarded if he or she comes across such a curious evolutionary change, and the only thing he/she can think of is aliens.

not the alien thing again .... firstly they need to check the family tree ,maybe they came from caucasus you know the origin of blue eyes ... of is just evolution thing

..and even the US military would love there soldiers to have this ability.

During WW2 the US military did some experiments to improve a soldiers night vision. The most successful one involved a specific strain of vitamin A which increased vision into the IR spectrum. By the time this experiment panned out IR devices you could mount on a rifle were becoming available. Not to mention you had to take the vitamin for several weeks before getting the full effect, you also had to keep taking the vitamin to keep the effect. And while the vitamin was better than normal night vision the image intensifiers and IR scope were better than the vitamin treatment.

Yeah but even caucasians with clear-blue eyes don't have this amazing capability for a cat-like night vision displayed by this little guy.

Even a mutation similar to cats eyes is perfectly normal but rare. Its just evolution...

But its not a very useful mutation, as humans are not night active predators.

Ever hunt feral hogs/wild boar? They are very active at night if they are experiencing hunting pressure, or its to hot to operate during day light; like during summers in Texas. Being able see them at night with out assistance would be great.

I'm not sure it'd be worth having blurred day time vision just to hunt some hogs.

You probably misunderstand the concept of evolution, it happens all the time slow but continuously.

They probably killed kids like that because they are "demons" or "sorcerers". The evolutionary advantage was not that big to outweight the disadvantages.

Hildemel
01-29-2012, 08:19 AM
Evolution is also describes as "random" mutations which may or may not benefit the species.
Gonna have to wait and see if the kids condition is a genetic trait that can be passed onto his children. Then it really could be evolution and not just a random fluke of nature.

Yeahhh, I'm going with random genetic mutation or the mom had an affair with the cat lol

I'll reserve panic when i see a grown up pic of the boy looking like THIS!
