The United States Navy is challenging the authenticity of Sen. John Kerry's Vietnam War medals, in a development that could prove to be the most damaging yet to the embattled Democrat's presidential campaign.

A Navy spokesman is calling Kerry's Silver Star citation with Combat V "incorrect" as it appears on his campaign web site, explaining in an interview with Chicago Sun-Times reporter Thomas Lipscomb that the Navy has never issued a Combat V at any time for the Silver Star.

The Navy is also questioning the listing on Kerry’s web site for four bronze campaign stars for his service in Vietnam. The official naval record credits Kerry with just two Vietnam campaigns.

"That is sufficient for the wearing of the Vietnam Service Medal for one campaign bearing one campaign star for the additional campaign — not four," reports Lipscomb in today's New York Sun.

Kerry's campaign has repeatedly cited the Navy as the ultimate authority on the candidate's war record, saying they wouldn't have awarded him medals he didn't deserve.

But with the Navy now publicly challenging Kerry's decorations, that defense has been rendered inoperative.

Noting that Kerry has refused to authorize the release of his full military records, the legal watchdog group Judicial Watch called on Kerry this week to remove any questionable citations from his Web site pending a formal investigation by the Navy.

"It is to your best interest to have your record in good order," General Thomas Wilkerson, the president of the U.S. Naval Institute, told Lipscomb. "If it is wrong, you are accountable. And if you use it to advance your career, it is even more important.”

...or more importantly...since Kerry refuses to release ALL of his military and medical recors?...only someone with something to hide would refuse to do something like that.

Do you want a President who has something about himself he wants to hide? What else would he be willing to hide from us?

Also, the Navy didnt "lose" Kerry's records. He is simply refusing to release them. Now why would he be doing that?

First, the Swift Boat vets accused Kerry of lying about his military record.
Now, the US Navy itself has verified that he is lying about it.
There is NO SUCH THING as a Silver Star with combat "V".
The combat "V" device is not and has never been issued with the Siver Star.

Kerry is lying about his military record in order to promote his political career. Hell, he even has the false commendations listed on his political web site!

I ask you...if this person is willing to lie about something to promote his career, what does that tell us about his character? What else is he lying about? What else would he lie about if elected to the highest office in the land?

Something to think about.

Hasn't there been like 40 threads about this? Does anyone care anymore?
It is pretty widely accepted that the 'combat V' was a clerical error.

It's not a clerical error when you give it to yourself. If it had been a clerical error, the Navy would have acknowledged it and made its own corrections.

Kerry gave it to himself not knowing that there was no such thing as a combat "V" for the silver star.

Since this thread's gonna turn into a republicans vs democrats, can it be moved to the political section, along with the 50 others Kerry doesn't deserve to become president of the US ?

If Kerry's misrepresenting his decorations he needs to be called on it.

I can't believe anyone is still trying to challenge Kerry on his military career, particularly when compared with Bush's (lack thereof).

Yep, to be quiet honest, you deserve who you get and you get who you deserve, both of them are piss poor choices :|

Did you guys know that Kerry was a war hero? That's right, he got 3 PHs, a BS, and a SS with 'combat V!'

I sure hope all those veterans are wrong about him and he didn't falsify his records because that would land the USS Kerry Campaign in very deep ****. I say lets get to the bottom of this once and for all.

Me too. That would be a shame.

Look, at this point it's academic at best, but I'd call it B.S. It comes down to this ..

Bush didn't fight, he's now directing the fight - do you think he's doing a good job?

If not, Kerry may've fought, but what's he done as a legislator since then?

It's all politics and as a voter, you're choosing between the lesser of two evils. Look at their political records, "don't believe the hype." If you haven't decided by now or persuaded your friends your way, it ain't gonna happen.
