Easing of Restrictions in the Bethlehem Area: August 15, 2003
This week, the IDF, in conjunction with the Office of the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories, continued to take confidence building steps and humanitarian measures in the Bethlehem area in accordance with the decision of the political echelon. The above-mentioned steps and measures include:


Allowance for the entrance of all merchandise into Bethlehem.


Allowance for those with permits to travel on Route 60.


The X junction is open to traffic every day between 6:00 AM - 19:00 PM.


Allowance for residences of the Bethlehem area and its western villages with permits to Israel.


Allowance for passage between the western villages and Bethlehem to the 94 junction.


2,000 workers and 2,000 merchants are granted permission to work in Israel.


The allowance for public transportation on route 60.


The entrance of tourists to Bethlehem is permitted.


Allowance for Christians with permits to exit in order to participate in religious events.
As the Palestinians act to extensively thwart and prevent terror attacks terror attacks, the IDF will be able alleviate security measures, which will improve the quality of life for Palestinian residents.

I'd say that allowing people to travel on their *own* roads, easying restrictions and making checkpoints more efficient hardly qualifies as humanitarian aid.

I'm sorry, but I didn't post an overview of Belgian humanitarian aid to Africa here. I'm very aware of atrocities of our colonial past, and i'm not denying them at all. I just pointed out what I thought was a very "broad" definition the IDF uses for humanitarian aid.

And oh: it'n nothing personal UoUo, I'm not interested in an online fight on this forum ;)
