In that pic of the SP with the SAW...are those green-tipped rounds incindinary?
He219

The red ones are tracers. Green tip have an armor penetrator, I think.
http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/land/M855.gif
The 5.56-mm ball M855 (A059) cartridge has a gilding, metal-jacketed, lead alloy core bullet with a steel penetrator. The primer and case are waterproof. The ammunition is linked by a disintegrating metallic split-linked belt for firing from the ammunition box. In an emergency, the M855 round can also be loaded and fired from the M16 20or 30-round magazine. It is identified by a green tip, has a projectile weight of 62 grains, and is 2.3 cm long. This is the NATO standard round. It is effective against personnel and light materials, not vehicles.

Ah....I read somewhere in a Guns&Ammo mag once that the green tips means explosive bullet, but armor piercing sounds pretty good. :)

No.... AP bullet has a black tip.
Green tip is for M855 bullet.

Has the US reduced it's FPM's in Bosnia or are those guys Int/SF? I've never seen US troops off base in the Balkans without helmets and body armour (apart from Int/SF). Not that I've been out there for 18 months.

If you wish to stereotype the 'average' Afghani, then you must rationalize that all foreigners are considered as 'infidels' and are likewise targeted as such.
To think that differentiating youself from Americans will make you 'less likely' to get shot in a hostile region certainly seems to be a pathetic excuse for not wearing appropriate camouflage and sounds more like Ameriphobia.....

Royal Marines in the 'stan wore mainly desert DPM gear with temperate web gear and windproofs (a mixture that works very well in a scrub environment). Most British troops there now are reservists. We still have a shortage of desert combats due to Op TELIC (Iraq). I leave you to draw your own conclusions as to why they're wearing temperate gear...

well the 'being seen' thing does make sense...i mean, we dutchies DO have desert fatigues that arent used anywhere else, so i suppose they use the normal uniforms just to be seen.. especially since thats for a big part what peace keeping is all about (no, those UN white painted vehicles aren't snow camo ;))

U.S. soldiers walk past by an altered picture of ousted Iraqi President Saddam Hussein which hangs on the wall of the U.S. Army 's 1st Battalion 22nd Infantry Regiment headquarters in Tikrit, about 110 miles (180 kilometers) northwest of Baghdad, Iraq, in this Aug. 17, 2003 file photo. The picture was later removed. The search for Saddam is taken particularly seriously in Mosul, 240 miles north of Baghdad, because his sons were run to ground and killed here. Saddam's vice president was also caught in the city by Kurdish forces, and the ex-dictator enjoys profound support among the largely Sunni population. Claims of Saddam spottings, most of them absurd, flood a hot line the U.S. Army has set up for tips on Saddam's whereabouts and weapons caches. The enthusiasm is no surprise, as someone eventually will earn the $25 million bounty offered for his capture.(AP Photo/Murad Sezer

The K-159 was just one of scores of Soviet-era nuclear submarines that are now awaiting disposal in northwestern Russia, near the border with Norway. Many foreign countries have provided Russia with funding in order to gradually scrap all the submarines, most of which have spent radioactive fuel on board. The submarine broke free early Saturday from giant pontoons that were towing it to shore, where it was to be dismantled. Only one of the 10 crewmembers survived the accident.
