Well I sent a email to the camelbak company out of curiosity about… (READ)
"Hi! I was curious to know if your camel backs come in any other camo colors such as, Marpat, cadpat, Dpm, or even tiger striped camo? THX"
this was sent on August 11, 2003.
They finally replied and this is what they typed.
"
Thank you for writing to us!
Next week we are having a meeting with all our military folks and we are going to review the color selections for the 04 line up. We have coyote on the list to review as well as MARPAT. So your email is very timely since we have not picked the 04 colors yet.
The MARPAT in a production product will probably be next March at the earliest. When it does become available it will most likely be available in the ThermoBak 3L product, which has become a standard in the field. Other packs are TBD. We have been working with MARCORSYSCOM on several products.
We greatly appreciate your feed back, and all of us here in the Military Division are glad to hear from our loyal CamelBak enthusiasts such as yourself.

I have already seen it in desert british DPM! So i guess its comming, and many more!
If I find the pic I will show it to you. [/img]
i wouldnt be suprised at all if you saw the number of patterns triple or quadruple within the next two years. between the marines and USAF with their new uniforms, the army uniforms TBD, and the brits germans and canadians all interested in the things. for all you gear buffs out there, the camelbak is getting a ton of attention from the us army nowadays. in particular theyve been testing them as part of the issue equipment in the striker battalion. that unit, orignally designed to test out some new vehicles, has been used to test out all sorts of new gear for the army. i was there 2 months ago, they were working with a whole new tactical vest, instead of the current LBV or LCE. they loved the thing

Your right BMF, I think in a couple of years the Camelback will be standard issue. I know, in my old unit probably 50 percent of the Marines had bought their own Camelbacks privately, and ditched the canteens. Apart from a few minor leaks here and there, I never heard of any problems. They also make great pillows!
On a side note, I bought a cheap immatation to begin with, It lasted exactly 3 minutes in the field, so its worth paying the extra bucks for a real Camelback, although I hear Hydra-Storm makes a good hydration system also.
nowadays in the army, they aren't quite "issue", but its just something that the vast majority of CO's are ok with, the same way no one cares if you carry a multi tool, or some of your own personally purchased stuff. as far as i know the striker bn is the first unit to actually issue the things, but a ton of units, especially light infantry, have been toying with the things for close to 10 years now. my first one, which is still use occasionally, is from '97. as long as you clean and/or occasionally replace the hose/resovoir, youre good to go

We got them issued in my battalion. We were issued black one's so as far as making them blend in we used old DPCUs as covers.

I actually saw some Camelbaks in Aussie camo in a Disposal/Surplus store in the U.S.!! I think they were Camelbak, do Plat-a-Tac make them as well? Anyways, I thought it was weird because that was the only camo scheme they had!

based on that first post, with the letter from camelbak, it sounds like they are waiting to see what the new army camo patterns will be before they start producing more BDU-style product
