I think it's quite safe to say that islam is still at the point where christianity was during the middle ages. Off course not all muslims are still like that but a vast majority still is, I even see it with immigrants here in our country.
Most off them still hold on to traditional islamical stuff and don't adapt to our "western" way of life, e.g. a good friend of mine has a father who is a Tunesian immigrant and tells his daugther that they aren't allowed to talk to belgian non muslim boys and soon ge will take them back to tunesia and do thes "forced" marriage.
