I dunot have guns at home... but if you would read what assault ban was about you would see that non of that drawings have any sense :)Again, how can You tell whether they make any sense or not... Some Americans think it is an issue and they know facts about it better than You and I. I post the cartoons because there is a plenty of them in US press... so it seems to be an important issue for some significant part of US public. The simple fact that in this particular forum (for obvious reasons) one side of this dispute is represented in much bigger numbers than the other, doesn't mean that these who are most vocal here are right (or wrong).

Also another thing, I'm a member of the NRA and Ohio Gun Collectors Assc, I don't hunt, I'm not Redneck, I don't drink beer and I'm not a gangbanger but love to go to the range and plink, so again the media's idea of gun owners does not reflect the truth very well does it!

Yep, this was a hot button issue. I wrote over 60 letters to the editor of various publications.

Contacted Congress 35 times via email and 12 times via phone.

And the battle is far from over. More bills to extend this are coming. However our government has forgotton the founders said there were two ways to change the government in this country...

Im American and these cartoons are retarded. I will look at each one and tell you why.

1. The first one is less to do about the AWB and more about government priorities. The artist is trying to say that our economy is bad but we are worried about "assault rifles". What exactly is the point? In fact, I could make an argument that the sunset of the ban might stimulate the economy by the short rise in gun sales (its a weak one I know). As far as safety is concerned, I have never bought an "assault weapon" because I feel unsafe. That is what a pistol is for. The sunset was never about personal safety either. The ban expired because someone finally realized how rediculous it is.

2.So what that the NRA lobbied against the ban. It is a stupid piece of legislation based more on Hollywood and sugar-induced paranoia, then common sense. Does this mean that the NRA controls our government? No.

3. I dont even know where to start with this one. There is no substantiated link between gun sales and crime rates. In fact, California has the some of the strictest gun control measures in America but is also one of its leaders in gun related crime.

4. Gangs will aquire illegal weapons, ban or not. Most people convicted of serious gun related crimes like robbery or murder have a long prior criminal record and are convicted felons. That means that legally they should not have had the gun in the first place. How did they get the gun to commit the murder or robbery? They are criminals.

5. Yes, in most states it is illegal to hunt with the .223 (why Im not totally sold on it as a combat round). It is also illegal to hunt with an "assault weapon" in most stated as well. By the look at the deer remains in his hand it makes me wonder if the artist intended that AR in the picture to be an automatic rifle, which by the way, would be EXTREMELY illegal to hunt with, ban or no ban.

6. I dont really understand what the artist is meaning to say here, maybe that we are one step closer to a militarization (is that even a word?) of our society? Ok, first off--ban or not--that person would not be able to drive that tank on the road without special permission. Private tank ownership, like firearms, is extremely restricted in America. Ive never owned one so I dont know the specifics, but there is just no argument here.

8. I would never call a man a coward for doing away with uneccessary laws. I would call him honest.

10. Again, those that gave up there right to own a firearm are still without that right. The American people are no more unsafe than ever, regarding the AW ban. Note: all of the weapons pictured were available to purchase before the ban expired, the exception is the Cobray Streetsweeper which must be properly liscenced. That will not change (at least I think. I believe it falls under the AOW category and requires certain paperwork).

11. I believe that the artist is implying that America will become a warzone now that the ban has been lifted. Well, its day two and still no shooting in the streets.

13. This one is retarded on so many levels. Children have never been able to buy guns and the purchase will still require a background check.

Bottom line? Education is the key.
