I've came across a bunch of newly released photos in the IDF spokesman website, which I thought could be of interest.

A flight of three Israeli F-15's will participate in Poland's airforce 85th anniversary, during which a memorial flight would be conducted over Auschwitz and Birkenau Death Camps, in memory of the millions murdered there. In the photos is the final preparation before departing to Poland.

You know I find flying over Auschwitz and Birkenau pretty dishonorable, those people still died in, perhaps the largest war ever, and how are you gonna pay your respects ? By flying over the place they died with fighter jets.
Can't you just let them rest in piece ? Or do like we do at the graves of soldiers, play the last post and read a poem orso.

The main reason the Holocaust took place was due to the fact the Jews didn't have a country. During WW2, the Brits closed the Israel border to immigrants from Europe, in order not to make the local arab population upset.

Having the one of the world's most advanced aircrafts, carrying an ISRAELI flag, over a place with was errected to destroy Jews in tens-if-thousands-a-day, is immence. It is a living proof the Nazis didn't succeed in their attepmt to destroy the Jews. It also means now the Jews have a country to go to, which is strong enough to protect them and preventing a second Holocaust from occuring.

The Holocaust was and still is one of the most significant events which forged and designed Israel's Security Doctorine and preception.

A fact I forgot to mention in the original message: All of the pilots in the memorial flight are anncestors of Holocaust survivers.

It's actually descendants, not ancestors. No biggie though. ;)

The IAF sure love the F-15. After more than a quarter of a century, still one of the best (if not the best) air superiority fighters out there.

In service dates are getting longer - be a bit like flying Spitfires and Mustangs on CAP during the Vietnam war. Funny to think theres probably a bloke flying his grandads B52. I wonder how long the up and coming generation of fighters is going to last ( hopefully without fighting too many wars )

Funny to think about it. The B-52 will be around 80 years old when it'll be decommissioned.

Well, other than the specialized additions (Python-4, EW, Etc.), I believe that IAF's most significant atvantage is it's human resource. I can't imagine many AFs with more combat experience and doctorine written with lessons of intense combat operation over numerous conflicts.

Beside of the best and most expirienced pilots in the world the IAF warplanes are equiped with Israeli electronic high-tech systems, considered to be one of the best in the world.
