All the Idema stuff is fine and good, but I wish the truth would be told that Jonathan Keith Idema was NEVER a "Green Beret".

1. A Green Beret is a hat.
2. He was a rigger for the 7th SFG(a).

Support is not the same as being an SF qualified guy. I hope this turd is flushed for good finally.

Dumb ass. granted, but many of the hounds will be rehomed/put to work and what is 1000 jobs? ever heard of retraining? hunting is just brutal and is something of the dark ages, i'm all for banning the hunting of stags foxes hares and rabbits, but i am still for game shooting. *edit* and as a matter of fact i have lived in the country for a good portion of my life, and i am interested in traditional woodcraft and natural preservation, so dont make assumtions, and may i ask from where in scotland you are?

Interesting sentiment. I am all against almost any kind of ban that has to do with firearms and hunting.

Gun's aren't used for fox hunting, the hound's rip it too bit's ;)

Maybe they do, but Mr Fox is dead before they do that, the first hound to catch the fox breaks it's neck. I believe "hunting" i.e. using hounds to chaise a quarry species isn't just confined to Britain, its also popular in France, and I believe in parts of the US.

I am not particularly pro fox hunting per se, but I do support the right of people to follow legitimate country pursuits.

As an aside - what on earth has anti-fox hunting protests got to do with a military forum anyway?

bloody hunters... cant stand em... i'm all for the ban.

Perhaps you are Mr. City Slicker. Think about the thousands of jobs.....and if you are so against a few foxes getting killed, think about the thousands of hounds that would cease to be of use, thus being put down. Dumb ass. granted, but many of the hounds will be rehomed/put to work and what is 1000 jobs? ever heard of retraining? hunting is just brutal and is something of the dark ages, i'm all for banning the hunting of stags foxes hares and rabbits, but i am still for game shooting.

None of the hounds will be re-homed - they will all be put down. The very nature of the breed (English Fox hound) and their training, makes them - as a pack animal - totally un-suitable for re-homing into a domestic situation. The breed will probably all but die out.

As I said in a previous post, I am not particularly for hunting, but it is the erosion of the tradional country way of life. I am an active deer stalker (hunter to the rest of the world) - banning hunting is only the thin end of the wedge - shooting/stalking/fishing etc. will be next if Mr Bliar and his pinko-lefty chums have their way.

see i think banning fishing and shooting (pheasants and birds braught up to be shot) is a bit OTT,but i cant condone shooting a wild animal unless your going to eat it and use its life for something.

Agreed.

I think it was Oscar Wilde who described fox hunting as The unthinkable in pursuit if the inedible. As I said before, I am not supporitng fox hunting for fox hunting's sake, purely as the means to an end - a ban on fox hunting is only the start.

I have been active in country sports (stalking, shooting, fishing) all of my life, but unlike many of my countrymen, I do not favour the breeding of birds (pheasants/partridges etc.) purely for shooting. IMO if you pursue a quarry species it must be truly wild, and the intent must be for food at the end of the day, or to control a vermin species.

I must apologise to my fellow forum members and the moderators for my persistent rant today - country sports are close to my heart, and Tony Bliar and his tin-pot cronies are intent on destroying hundreds of years of tradition whilst our European neighbours look on in amazement. Imagine telling the Germans or the French that their government is going to ban hunting (that is the widest use of the word, not the English use) - there would be rioting in the streets - imagine trying to ban hunting in the US - I don't think so. Rant over - sorry!

well most pheasant shooters eat their pheasant at the end of the day... and i agree the ban is only the start there needs to be thinking beyond it,
like retraining getting jobs for the people who have been made redundant, it would be silly not to do that, and have you ever been smoking rats with jack russels? its lots of fun :P

All the Idema stuff is fine and good, but I wish the truth would be told that Jonathan Keith Idema was NEVER a "Green Beret".

1. A Green Beret is a hat.
2. He was a rigger for the 7th SFG(a).

Thats all fine and good, but what I would like to see is other people claiming to be journalists chronicling events for terrorists tried as accomplices like that character with Idema.

I am sorry to see pro-hunters behaving like this, but it was inevitable - the general opinion is that the ban is a but un-enforeable and hunting will probably go on.

As for banning guns - well, it has almost happened. No hanguns, not even .22s; no semi-auto weapons except .22s; no pump-action rifles; no pump/auto shotguns holding more than three rounds unless on a firearm certificate; and draconian control of what few firearms we are allowed, i.e. you have to justify a need for every weapon, and demonstrate that you have adequate land on which to use them.
