From the caption: "This is a 2003 handout photo showing Smith & Wesson's new .50-caliber Magnum hunting revolver, the five-shot Model 500, said to be the most powerful production handgun on the market. The Smith & Wesson Corp., based in Springfield, Mass., is publicly introducing the handgun and eight other new models, Thursday, Feb. 5, 2003 at a trade show in Orlando, Fla. The Model 500 will sell for $989."

I'm not a gun owner so maybe I'm out of the loop, but I'd much rather have something that looks like a Desert Eagle than the above if I needed to put a slug through the armour plated engine block of a charging deer that I was hunting.

It's a hunting pistol. Designed so that there's nothing left of the deer when you've hit it.

You can say what you want about hunting! But this sickens me. Hunting is for getting food, not PLEASURE KILLING. Just by looking at their smiling faces makes my stomac turn. Revolting. (Sorry, just had to get it out.)

I was so angered that I forgot how to put pics on here... And fortunatly it seems like this is some years ago since this was done. If they aint dead, I hope some sense has been acchived since then.

hunting animals for sport is stupid. if you're gunna hunt, hunt something that shoots back. like hemingway said, "There is no hunting like the hunting of man, and those who have hunted armed men long enough and liked it, never care for anything else thereafter."

So David are you a vegan? Or are you a hypocrite? Though Hemingway said that he actually wrote alot about hunting and fishing and was a hunter (of animals) himself. Almost all hunters eat what they kill. It is a lot healthier meat that you get from the store, which comes from inhumane high density feed lots. Where I come from it is actually necessary to hunt deer otherwise T.B. and starvation kill off a lot more deer than hunters ever could do. By the way they are smiling because hunting is fun it is not just walking out in the woods and shooting something. There is so much more to it.

Well I think he was referring to the leopard picture above and to hunting various other animals like lion or tiger. You're most likely not going to eat tiger or lion meat, so it would just be for the sport of it, which he and I too, have problems with.

Exactly Hood. I do not hunt myself, but have no problems with ppl who hunt for the meat. I say, what you hunt, you eat! Shoot a deer, eat it! Shoot a Corvette, EAT it! I know that you have to harvest the nature, if it is berries or deer. But dang if I like that you hunt leopard just to have it put on the wall. Shamefull it is. Thats my 2 1/2 cents, wiith interests.

I'm far from a vegetarian, I just think it's stupid that people go out of their way to kill an animal that doesn't need to be killed. That deer lives out in the woods all the time and then you go out there and sit in a tree for a few hours and shoot it with a rifle and then try to justify it by saying, "we eat it, too", bs-you make a bunch of sausage with it and then put it's head on your wall. and so what if they'd die of t.b. and starvation, if you were dying of starvation, would you want me to shoot you?

I would. Ever heard of mercy-killing?

I have no problem with hunters who hunt for food, either. But the ones that shoot for trophies or attack endangered species, that's wrong.

Mercy killing, killing for the sake of the greater good or to do a humane thing. I agree with people that will put an animal out of its misery or hunters who hunt and then eat the meat. As a hunter myself, I can honestly say every deer that I have hunted to this day I have used the meat. But Euthenasia (sp) I have no problem with, as in the past I have had to put 2 dogs and a horse down. (both dogs were bitten by an infected racoon I beleave and contracted rabbies and the horse had broken its leg beyond recovery, the vet offered to do it, but I felt an obligation to the animals to do it myself)

Most hunting today is done for sporting purposes, and not for consumption. Get used to it.

been done before.... a few times.

ever heard of a company called magnum research incorporated. or mri for short. you know the... the makers of the desert eagle .50 caliber action express.

my guess is that this thing (unless your suicidal) doesn't fire .50 bmg rounds but rather a pistol sized .50 round.

sure, when posting a reply, you'll see a bunch of boxes above the text box. move your cursor over the Img box. using that, it'll let you link to images that are on a website and it'll display it here. let me know if you need it hosted.

No, more often it is under kill. Pistols often use rather heavy bullets, but they fire them at very low velocity.
A 50cal pistol has no where near the knock down power of a 50 BMG round at any except the closest range.

I hunt rabbits and possums. I almost never eat the meat myself as local rabbits have been infected with the RCD virus in order to irradicate them... it didn't work.

Those who hunt and kill trophy animals in Africa spend many thousands of dollars on each trip. Without that money the locals would kill those trophy animals either for food or to protect their livestock. Without some westerner going in there and paying $15000 US dollars to hunt a Lion the locals would not have any source of income and certainly no reason to protect the Lions from poachers or angry goatherders.

Greenies can whine about the natural environement but most of the hunters I know have done 1,000 times more to secure the future of wildlife than most of the whiners.

*Sigh*.. that's why so many of those animals are near extinction...
