View Full Version : TV Show: Tactical to Practical
I noticed this new show starting on Sep 9th on the history channel.
Former Navy fighter pilot and series host Hunter Ellis examines military solutions to problems that crossed over into civilian life. Hunter explores the Army's relationship with four-wheel drive--from WWII Jeeps to the Humvee. From off-road to the dark of night, he takes a glowing green look into night vision technology, now used in law enforcement and wildlife research. And, he shows how GPS (Global Positioning System) came into its own in Desert Storm and is about to make the compass obsolete!

till your battery's run out or you go walking in the woods mobile phones and Gps are the bane of mountain rescue's life. allowing idiots to wander off into the hills and call for help but have no idea where they are
somebody who can't use a map and compass should'nt be allowed to buy a GPS

And correct me if I'm wrong (I'm not a computer nerd), wasn't the Internet originally a military project to increase global communication between troops?

'Always good to read of SoCal (http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~uscnrotc/Decades/d-1990/c1990bio/b90ELL.htm) alumn.
:D
the internet came about from a nerd mucking with file transfer and expanding the idea into networks thus giving idea to a "internet which then birthed into wildfire. ever since then the commercial media has run with the internet and the military has also to a certain extent building its "own" internet network. al gore (yes i know you were joking) really pushed the internet with government although he really didnt do much as the internet was a self propelled machine by then. he really touted it during his achievements because he wanted to be related to something "cool". al gore has a genuine interest in computers and is currently on apple computers board because steve jobs is a blo hard political whore.
