Well, unfortunately the USMC did not work out for me like I had hoped, and I did not even get to go to Parris Island. My original ship date was July 14th but got delayed because I did not make weight and they told me it would be a week longer but it ended up getting totally rescheduled. I continued to remain confident in them and still ran and worked out only to discover that they no longer could guarantee my job contract. They never told me this but I assumed it was so since they kept insisting that I choose something else. One of my buddies shipped out about a week ago thinking he was going to be a communicator but they were just talking about how he is an open contract. I finally decided enough was enough and although I had really wanted to be a Marine and prove myself down at P.I., I did not want to end up with a job I disliked for at least four years of my life. I still am not holding this against the Marine Corps itself and only think negatively of my recruiter and the others up there because they seem to be very unorganized.

Anyways, most of you probably arent much concerned about this I was just basically giving a notice that I am back and will be posting again. For those that are concerned, I am 100% sure that I will be enlisting in the military but just trying to decide on the service. Right now, the Army is probably my main interest and along the lines of an Intelligence job or Ranger/18x contract.

you should try and go to meps again...see what they hae avaliable job wise..what were you looking at? I'm 03..with the 26th MEU (on leave due to injury)..as for making the weight..if you're alittle heavy you DO NOT want to go to boot like that..they will make your life a living hell!! Good luck with whatever you do..Semper Fi

Mind if I ask what the maximum limit is for weight to join the USMC?

I'm not sure about USMC, but Army has a height + weight standard. (It's actually not a good indicator of physical fitness)

So it's not a question of maximum weight but of the combination of the two.

Thanks guys, its good to be back.

I am 71'' tall and to ship out at that weight I have to be 207, now I am at 203 but at the time I was 209. They also round down alot and try to make it harder for you to make the weight because I always have been measured right at 72'' tall.

The job I "had" a contract for was Aircrew, specifically a helicopter crew chief. I originally wanted to get the 02xx Intelligence job and I had told that to my recruiter before I signed up and the day after I enlisted they told me it was not available.

I can give an example, I'm 6'1 so my ideal weight is like 175 to 185 lbs. I think, the recruiters said my weight was fine for my height, haven't seen the chart.

Also, if you weight exceed the maximum for your height, I believe they then check for muscle mass. If you're above the weight limit, I think you'll be fine if it's muscle and not fat.

It is true in the USMC that if your weight exceeds your limit, they check for body fat percentage and it cannot be any more than 18%. As long as you are under that they do not care but that only applies to Marines as it does not count for recruits hoping to go to recruit training.

a guy in my old unit was a big mo fo muscular and all you know and he almost got kicked out because his fat ratio was too much. but i mean he was muscular and strong. it was a wierd deal. i dont get it. if he can pass pt test he aught to be good to go.
