germans rock. its none of this BS that the left speels "oh, fox news made me not like the french". please, keep searching your left nut for any excuse to get you off.

the germans rock, they kick serious ass, i do not like the fact that our governments are currently playing negative polictics with each other, they were insane to take on the world twice and bounce back, thier food rocks (sauasage and beer) and well, actually thier women scare me a bit. i also have similar opinions about russia except thier run and gun tactics and thier food quality wise scares me a bit more than ours. dito for thier women. both are hard asses. would be nice to have germany on our side for once in a core war.

and no im not bias because im half german. never been to germany and prolly never will. certain people conotate a certain image. russia and germany have simiar yet different images and both are very far from frances.

Nobody thought is was bigoted or belligerent when Monty Python made fun of Frenchpeople for a couple decades straight. Everyone laughed, maybe even the French, when those poncy guys in The Holy Grail shouted "Your mother was a hamster and your father smelled of elderberries!" Yet if Americans make a single about "freedom fries" and "patriot bread waffles," we're being xenophobic. I don't get it.

I've been making fun of France since an evil French teacher in high school set out to single-handedly destroy two years of my life. It has very little to do with the war in Iraq.

So no, I bear no particular animosity towards Germany. We didn't see eye-to-eye on Iraq. That's too bad. But if you're looking for an anti-continental-European conspiracy, sorry to disapoint you, but you won't find one.

I will admit that I might make an occasional German joke, but I don't do it any more than the Monty Python guys do, so whatever. They can deal. I'm sure Berliners joke about Yankees from time to time too, and nobody jumps in to protect OUR sensitive feelings.

I disagree with the above and I have decided I dislike Germans. Freaky language with obscure insults that don't translate and what's up with the sausages with the red and yellow sauce over it? And the fries with the mayonnaise, that just ain't right. Two World Wars and one World Cup, I say, and boo sucks to you if you don't like it, etc etc. Who said they hated Germans 'as well'?

What has liking or disliking Germans got to do with anything anyway?

Oh, Rantanplan, here's my full perspective on Germany:

Ten utterly fantastic things about Germany:

1) Tom Twyker and Franka Potente. Thank you for Tom Twyker and Franka Potente. Lola Rennt kicks major arse. No joke. And Der Kreiger und Die Kaiserin was righteously awesome.

2) Oktoberfest. 'Nuff said.

3) BMW cars and motorcycles. Not the most affordable, but way cool.

4) Industrial music. A Frontline Assembly album can turn any happy day into an HR Giger painting. Is this a good thing? I say so.

5) Playing a major role in helping Jews escape the Commonwealth of Independent States (the former Soviet Union). Anti-Semitism has become a powerful force in Russia since the fall of the USSR, and even Jews who out-lasted the Communists are now deciding it's time to flee. Germany has taken in these refugees with open arms. As a matter of fact, in 2002, Jewish immigration from the CIS to Germany was larger than Jewish immigration from the CIS to Israel.

6) Helping take down Slobo. Kosovo is better off because the Luftwaffe helped Clinton's campaign against the Butcher of Belgrade.

7) Birkenstocks. Effing awesome sandals. Indestructible and comfortable.

8) German insults. They sound so mean! And they really rattled my high school French teacher when I yelled them at her.

9) Wiener dogs. Because EVERYTHING is more fun when you add a few wiener dogs to the mix.

10) A national cuisine focused around red meat instead of leafy greens or peanuts. So now when a girl accuses me of being uncultured and only eating American food, I can say "that ain't true! German food is great. Lemme go shoot an elk and show you what I mean."

And now, the bad things about Germany. I only have four of 'em, and you'll notice that Iraq isn't on the list, cause that's water under the bridge already:

1) That whole WWII thing wasn't so hot. Now you can't just erase something like that, but Germany has done all sorts of things in the past 50 years to try and help wounds heal and to prevent it from happening again (see #5 on the "good" list), and the son shall not inherit the sins of the father, so I'm ready to say "let bygones be bygones."

2) The new VW Bug. It should be named the VW WTF. Seriously. We rebuild your society after Hitler, protect you from Communists for half a century, and this is what we get in return? A flower vase in the dashboard? Man, it's things like this that make me think we shoulda just let the Red Army steamroll through Berlin.

3) Those ****o videos where people poop on each other. Those are uncalled for. No joke. Stop it.

4) The Scorpions:
http://www.the-scorpions.com/images/gallery/Love%20At%20First%20Sting%20Tour%201984-86/loveatfirststingtour5.jpg

You know, I knew this Israeli kid who learned English by listening to the Scorpions album Crazy World over and over again. Some things just aren't right. An Israeli learning English by listening to a German hair metal band is one of them.

Militarily speaking - which after all is what this site is about - the Germans are about as good as it gets.

There is too much emphasis on WW1 & WW11 where tens of millions of Germans were led by crazed leadership, and in most cases blindly followed their leader.

Today, Germany has a well equipped, well motivated and highly professional Army, Navy and Air Force. They are, or damned well should be respected by their allies in NATO and elsewhere, and their recent performance in the former Youoslavia, and in ISAF Afghanistan has shown the world just how good they are.

There are few other nations worldwide with this level of capability, used for the right reasons - don't knock them.

oldsoak
09-01-2003, 11:44 AM
I'd go with that. Had they joined the allies in GWII, they would have been fascinating to watch. It would have been interesting to watch if there had been a German Brigade ( a new Afrika Korps ? ) fighting alongside the allies. One suspects that given the quality of German engineering and their proverbial thoroughness, they would have had little problems with their kit. I do like Germans, ( excellent lager and wurst, ) and its about time we forgave the present generation the sins of their fathers.

Adding on to what DeltaWhiskey was saying..
The German military is and has always been a huge part of their culture. They are natural warriors, and their culture supports and encourages this. Nowhere in the world is the armed forces so significant in their society than in Germany (spare the Gurkhas in Nepal). And regardless of their past actions a military-oriented board like this one should respect their culture for this reason alone.

Interesting Story (http://www.nationalreview.com/comment/comment-pacepa021403.asp) here...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/olmedia/1250000/images/_1250944_fischerradical150.jpg

"we defined ourselves as revolutionaries."
Joschka Fischer

No wonder (http://www.selloutpictures.com/productions/baader/0,,1-47-371366,00.html) this is a sensitive subject, since many of those reformed radicals now run Germany. Not least Chancellor Schröder, himself a one-time Marxist whose past career as a lawyer involved representing Ulrike Meinhof’s close friend Host Mahler, a left-wing terrorist who later joined the far-right German Nationalist Party. Schröder’s Interior Minister, Otto Schily, also once defended Baader and Ensslin in court.

But most damning was the snapshot which resurfaced last year of Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer attacking a policeman at a violent 1973 demonstration. At the time, Fischer was already under pressure to resign after testifying at the trial of another ex-radical, Hans-Joachim Klein, for his part in a murderous raid on a 1975 Opec meeting in Vienna. In an intriguing twist, the source of the picture was Ulrike Meinhof’s daughter Bettina Röhl.

Well, I think this is much cooler than the mendacious and dissembling American Politicians.

He219
09-02-2003, 03:22 PM
They did a lot more than just that...

Bettina Roehl also disclosed that Fischer had been the main advocate of using petrol bombs in a 1976 demonstration in which a policeman almost died of terrible burns.

The incident involving Mr Weber took place the day after Ulrike Meinhof, the co-leader of the terrorist Baader-Meinhof Gang, hanged herself in prison. Her death sparked violent demonstrations by the radical Left in Frankfurt. Mr Fischer was involved in the protests, but claims not to have been near the incident when the Molotov cocktail was thrown at the car in which Mr Weber was sitting. After the attack he was arrested with 13 other people.

Almost killing policeman Juergen Weber and associating yourself with the Red Army Faction, Carlos the Jackal and being a militant leftist is a far cry from GW's fraternity days....

When you have lived with the threat or terrorism hanging over your head for 30+ years as we have in Europe - especially the UK and Germany - instead of the sheltered world of Uncle Sam - perhaps you would think a bit more before tarring an entire nation like Germany with the so-called Bader-Meinhoff/RAF brush.

Until World Trade Centre #1 and 9/11 you guys over there hadn't experienced the wrath of World Terror on your home territory - we have for a long, long time. Don't knock Germany just because of a few politically extreme nutters.

Actually, I lived in Germany throughout the 70's.....

I am familiar with Terrorism, perhaps not the likes of Northern Ireland. I experienced RAF planted explosives on the transmission lines at Kernkraftwerk Gundremmingen and events like the RAF abduction and killing of Hans Martin Schleier where German Police pointed Submachine Pistols in my face. Don't pretend you know me and don't stereotype Americans. Some of my closest friends experienced the WTC attacks.

Unfortunately it is your 'politically extreme nutters' that are in power in Germany right now.

Dear HE219,

Germany was still ruled by old Nazis in the late sixties and early seventies, and thats why I support the leftist movement. Of course was the RAF's and Bader-Mainhof's way of terrorism the wrong way, but the german Gouvermant and the right Wing startet this War. They killed Benno Ohnesorg and the tried to kill Rudi Dutschke. And I'm proud that in Germany, wich has such a shameful History, Young People tried to fight against this Ineqity. And that this Policeman was wounded doesn't matters me at oll. The policeman were the real Extremists at this Time. Nobody count's the peaceful Demostrants wich were beaten up by the Police.

Joschka is a good Man and a good Politician. Yes, he was am Extemist,
but he changed his Position. And the most Important about Joschka and other Politicians of his Generation is that they do this Job because of their Convictions and that they are prepared to Fight for this.
Not like G.W. Buch who protected America from the Vietcong somewere in Arizona and wasted his Time with Alcohol and fast Cars because he was to rich and to bored.

P.S. Of Course I didn't voted for Stoiber! I would rather had voted for Bush than for Stoiber p-)

What war? Leftists against the establishment??

As you wrote, Germany was rebuilt by the people who actually experienced the war. To label that entire generation as 'old Nazis' is a discredit to your countrymen who strived over 50 years for what the leftist populus now want's on the spot. As that generation of battlehardened people (many whom were youth and saw the world along with everything they believed in get toppled upside down with the truths of Nazi-ism) now retires and disappears, we see the face of the left reer itself in the mainstream politik and to the detriment of the ethic that brought Germany out of the ruins of WWII and into Europe's driver's seat.

Killing civil servants is not a form of leftist activism I condone.

The truth of Benno Ohnesorg (http://www.crimelibrary.com/terrorists_spies/terrorists/meinhof/3.html?sect=22) and Rudolf (Rudi) Dutschke (http://www.nrw2000.de/koepfe/dutschke.htm)

Perhaps this thread wasn't such a good idea, but I continue to support Germany - no doubt our American freinds will single out Britain - or even Scotland next.............who knows?

Until World Trade Centre #1 and 9/11 you guys over there hadn't experienced the wrath of World Terror on your home territory

Being a citizen of the world I was aware of these attacks too! As previously stated, none of them was in the USA (excepting Oklahoma City/Langley - both of which were carried out by individuals), rather they were made on US assetts/citizens abroad - somewhat different than on your home turf?

HE219

Actually, I lived in Germany throughout the 70's.....

Surely that should have given you a broader outlook on life than that apparent from the sweeping statements you have made about a very small minority applying to a large and advanced nation such as Germany. You might as well say that all British are Irish Republican sympathisers or something equally ridiculous.

Try removing your xenophobic blinkers and having a look at the real world instead of typing such narrow-minded crap!

I used to be proud of having 25% American blood - if you guys represent the USA, I'm having second thoughts. How many Americans are of German descent - don't try and tell me that neither of you have any German blood in your veins.

At the end of the day, this is a Military-oriented Forum - not one for racially motivated and narrow-minded attacks.

I may not have lived in Germany in the 70s, but I have visited the nation many times and on the whole find its people charming and accomodating. Perhaps you treated them with the same attitude in the 70s as you do now...............I rest my case..............

1. I used "started the War" as a rhetorical Phrase

2. Your so-called truth of Benno Ohnesorg and Rudi Dutschke proof my Point. thank you.

3. Germany wasn't rebuilded by the Politicians. Even the German constitution wasn't made by Germans. Contradicting, People like Franz Josef Strauss sabotated the young Demacrty at this Time.

Sweeping statements; DeltaWhisky58, what got cought up your arse? Try reading my posts again.

I specifically wrote " Leftwing fruitcakes like Joschka Fischer is the type of German I don't like"

Yes, I have Austrian, Swiss and German blood. My relatives experienced the Firestorms in Hamburg and mass bombing raids by six mile long formations of B17's over the Ruhr, then by the British at night. Don't try to smudge my disaffections for the Socialist Left as an attack on all Germans. I'm proud of my heritage. We are all 'citiizens of the world', not just you.

Thanks, seventy6er! woot

Rantanplan, at least you are honest to being a Socialist sympathizer, but don't try to say that the Right has no convictions! Fischer and Schroeder are the establishment now. Excluding the evils of the Nazi-ism, you should be proud of your German history.
