A British Army officer has been cleared by the Ministry of Defence of mistreating prisoners of war in Iraq.

No criminal proceedings will be brought against Colonel Tim Collins, the former commanding officer of the 1st Battalion, Royal Irish Regiment, the the Ministry of Defence said.

A spokeswoman for the MoD said: "I can confirm that the investigation into allegations against Colonel Collins has now concluded and that no criminal proceedings will be taken against him."

Northern-Ireland born Col Collins, 43, a father of five, won British and American praise for a rousing speech to his Royal Irish Regiment troops on the eve of fighting.

He categorically denied claims he broke the rules of conduct during the conflict in Iraq.

The Ministry of Defence ordered an investigation into claims made by a US military officer, Major Re Biastre of 402nd Civil Affairs Battalion, Buffalo, New York, who alleged abuse of captured Iraqis.

Well Glad he`s proven himself innocent :D

Now what will the US DoD do with such a "MAJOR" Pain in the Arse.

After all having some F***wit running around to the media,as other Nations claiming there troops are breaking Rules of Conducts, well that`s not going to help a Coalition force bond is it.

Looks like someone was tring to get there Full Bird via being a Grasser/Snitch/All round BULL SH*****.

Rule Britainnia & the lads & lasses on the front lines.

I've knocked you a bit in the past, but today mate - you're tops!

What a wanker

Re Biastre is a classic example of what gives American forces a bad name eleswhere - a total ****head. If a few more senior officers had the balls of Col. Tim Collins, we'd all have better armies.

Investigate Biastre and get the JAG boys to fry his ass.................

Thats bloody good news, in a world of **** some light has arisen.

Col. Tim Collins has balls of solid brass, and in good British Military tradition - well polished, hence the source of the light.................... rofl

We could do with a few more like him, to many armchair ****-heads in the higher echelons of the Armed Forces.

Some background:

http://archives.econ.utah.edu/archives/a-list/2003w21/msg00022.htm

"Major Stan Coerr, a US Marine officer in charge of an "Anglico" team
attached to the Royal Irish Regiment throughout the campaign to co-ordinate American air support and prevent "friendly fire" incidents, said the entire episode was triggered by spite.

Major Biastre, 37, a school counsellor in upstate New York, had been
humiliated verbally and arrested for insubordination by Colonel Collins when he breached orders, and then argued with his British superior.

Major Coerr described his fellow-countryman's allegations as "ludicrous" and "spiteful" and said he would serve with Colonel Collins "any time, anywhere". He has also volunteered to testify in the colonel's favour in any inquiry.

Colonel Collins, now on leave after relinquishing command of 1st battalion, the Royal Irish Regiment, to await a new promoted post, still faces another inquiry into his style of leadership of the unit two years ago and an alleged "climate of bullying" by fellow officers which may have contributed to the suicide of 18-year-old Ranger Paul Cochrane in South Armagh in 2001"

cheers
