G'day people,
There's not too much in nature that's black, so I thought I'd try and put some green and brown onto my gloves, but dye isn't going to work. I could use paint, but I don't want to damage it.

Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions?

Cheers

so what you want to do is get yourself some MATTE spray paint and LIGHTLY dust the gloves. If you lay it down thick, the paint will crack and peel.

All you need to do is break the outline, and you do that with lighter colored paints, greens may not show up as well as hoped.

i dont recommend that you are spraying your gloves, spray will worn out when you use gloves.

Phantom

it will what?

Seraphim

Hes basically saying that the paint will wear off.

JunglistSoldier

uhm.. moot point. The camo creme I apply to my face wears of, is that a reason to stop camoing my face? No.

The paint i have on my vest right now wears of. It will eventually, and when it does you reapply more paint. Simple as that.

Ofcourse the best thing you can do is NOT buy black gloves :P

Phantom

good point.
but if the gloves are better, then they're better and that's all there is to it.

so Phantom -
Are you going to send me those gloves or what?

but seriously folks....

when you get them painted just come back and let everyone know how they worked...give us the Phantom Review..
I've never painted gloves, but have used Bowflage on kneepads, chestharness and other "softer flexible" things....it wears off but it still is breaks up the solid colors.

Wear off. Yeah, that was the word that I tried to say. Thanks.
As you see iīm not pretty good at English.
But to the topic,as you said, best thing what you can do is buy already a green gloves, then you donīt have paint your gloves and it looks lot of better than painted version.
I really hope you understand, what i tried to say.

Phantom

yeh i understand. but what's more important? gloves that you don't have to paint, or gloves that are the best available, but you have to paint them?

Acctually, your bare white hands will give you away very very quickly sience they move around alot. A black hand is better but a properly camoed one wins the race.

Well, stop waving the hands then. And do as a good soldier do, put them in your pockets. ;)

Best gloves Ive ever had are the Hatch Operatorswww.tacticalcity.com/gloves.asp and they come in green!
Personally Ive had bad luck painting soft materials, I spray-painted a padded binocular case a couple of years ago, the dam things still wet!

Phantom

those are the gloves i'm talking about, except the grey strip isn't leather, it's just nomex

Hey Phantom I've had a pair of hellstorms for two years now and they're really great in the feild. My advice just wear em and get em dirty. Even when I wash mine now they're still pretty brown and green from all the months on ex. Though I find it really doesn't matter if they are black in the first place since my C-7A1 is black and if I needed to cam myself and my rifle up really well I just wouldn't wear my gloves and cam my hands up. Since when you're trying to stay hidden you ain't doing alot of jumpin and running and can probably shoot better with bear hands anyways. I only wear the gloves in assaults and then they know I'm coming and the color of my gloves doesn't matter a whole lot.

Just use bowflage.
It doesn't bond with the surface of what's painted, so it won't ruin anything.
It comes off easier than perm spray paint, but the trade off is worth it if you don't want to take the chance of ruining the surface of the glove.

I really don't think ANY spray paint would actually damage the glove.
But if you don't want to risk it, go with bowflage.
To make it stick to the glove longer, lightly dust the gloves with krylon matte finish after you put the bowflage on.

Hard thing about painting gloves is that since the material stretches and flexes alot the paint has a tendency to crack off quickly.

Best option is flesh out gloves, they retain dirt better so they become dull quickly and blend in better overall.
But you limit your glove options when you go with flesh out. Just like boots.

Ok, really, the way we made our gloves work in the ****ehole is just like our vests. We sprayed a light coat of the right color paint on them, then while the paint is still wet, we dusted them with whatever dirt was on the ground in the area you will be using them in. i.e. Brown dirt, sand, etc.

Yes, it eventually wears off but so does the paint on your weapon and the skin holding your guts in, so just paint them again!!
