Agreed, but, why is that pouch so low on the leg panel?

Sheikh Al Stranghi
01-14-2007, 05:45 PM
I think that's a very handy place to have it. It doesn't restrict the movement of your torso and arms, and anything that might be hanging off it, and if you put it lower it's a pain in the ass in high grass or when ****e, and it's not easily accessable.

My opinion

That is of an NCO in the 325th GIR. I have sold off all the items such as the compass pouch, binoculars, map case and holster. Now working on just an enlisted man set up. And no I don't shoot left handed. Why did you ask?

I believe he asks because the pouch on the right side of your carbine might get in the way of your right arm/hand. and make it hard to aim/shoot.

Themango
01-14-2007, 07:38 PM
I didn't think of that...the pouch doesn't get in the way at all...I don't recall if I have ever seen any photos of it on the opposite side during WWII. But of course I am sure it could have been done.

Battery plug is showing, what's that in the snipers' barel, and one of your dropleg magazine-legstraps is not connected, and it's not closed... And the black dropleg-pouch, is it really comfortable so low? Your backpack zipper is open too. Other than that it looks like a workable setup, HSGI-rig?

Oh, forgot to say: SMILE! ;-) (and don't look in the camera). May I also suggest a more appropriate background? LOL

This is my british setup, the belt kit might not be the "exact" setup paratroopers used but I like it this way. It's supposed to look like a para in Falkland, though I still a lot of work to make it better

P58:
2x bottle pouches sewn together for my mags
1x bottle pouch for the obvious use...
1x kidney pouches to carry BB, battery, food, ration heating tabs, cup etc
1x ammo pouch to carry airsoft grenades or spent mags

DPM85 smock (for display purpose only, I play with an S94 smock)
S95 pants (I'd prefer to have S94 with sewn buttons rather than taped, but it's the only model my surplus has)
MK6 helmet with inner tube band

I'm using my M16A1 with that setup until I can afford a FAL :D

And by the way, could some British (or anyone else who has the info) tell me where to get the helmet scrim? That would be greatly appreciated!

Buy yourself a british scrim scarf and put it over your helmet... to hold in place use the "inner tube band".
Afaik you can use any kind of nets to give your lid the "para" look. ;)

You can also get it at www.militarymart.co.uk (http://www.militarymart.co.uk) either with or without hessian, although as hearst said alot of toms just use scrim net.

Pvtvince,

Just buy a scrim scarf and wrap it over the lid, BUT if your trying to get it correct that lid is the wrong era and wrong type.

Also consider changing the S95 trousers for a pair of lightweights, would deffo make it look a whole lot more old school, a Para smock, DMS boots & puttees.

But I have also alot of stuff coming down from UK to start a modern british soldier impression

And thanks for help!

Private Vince,

I like your original setup. Just a tip: ive never seen any belt kit setup from that era with only 1 mag pouch.

There is a website in the UK that sells 58' gear real cheap. Ill try to find it. In the mean time search for any old combat and survival mag. Even better get the book Combat and/or Survival (pref survival) it will be a gold mine of information for you about the standard and preferred equipment they used during that era. E gay is a good source.

I used to have loads of lightweights... now none. Shame, as I would have send you a pair.

Carry on pal and keep us updated on the SLR.

Vince S
01-21-2007, 02:08 PM
The two sewn bottle pouches contain my mag, I don't especially like the ammo pouch, they're too long for M16 mag, so I use it for anything I need to carry (grenades). I have a second one somewhere in my stockpile of gear. When I'll have the FAL I'll use both ammo pouch because mags are bigger than M16 ones

cant disagree with you there. The whole design is like a broken pencil...no point. However they did use them.

If you find that the 58' is too stiff for your liking place them in hot water with a bit of washing machine liquid. The result is a far more supple pouch.

Check the belt kit thread in the equipment section to see what Ive done with my 58'

Do they sell individual pouches? I've been needing another ammo pouch and a second bum roll for ages, only just realised that military mart sell them for Ł5 each and I'd be surprised to find them cheaper, even on ebay.

I've ordered the FN FAL too, should be here next week :) Only problem is that the only place I can find to get a L1a1 handguard from is www.Floridagunworks.com (http://www.Floridagunworks.com) and I'm reluctant to spend Ł50+ a furniture set that I won't need 2 out of 3 pieces of and where I don't even know for certain the handguard will fit properly (it should, but you never know) So until someone releases an SLR kit (hopefully soon!) it will get RAS kits instead.

Here you can't choose, if you airsoft rifle is over the limit of 1J (330fps), is considered a real weapon and you may have some problem with the law.
Beginners always want to shoot far....and normally they hit anybody...

Marui is like russian Trabant, not beatiful, but works.

@Pvtvince: If you want your MKVI look like a Para - simply cut off all the elastics on the cover, put a piece of net over and a Inner Tube around your lid. You can also add a cateye band (US or British made) to make it look complete.

Btw: Not only the Paras use this kind of "Lid-Modding" (of course they got it first and use it most), but some army members make the same with their MKVIs.
For example: A member of the "Queens Royal Lancers" in Iraq:

For example: A member of the "Queens Royal Lancers" in Iraq:
http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/8890/qrliraqdw1.th.jpg (http://img216.imageshack.us/my.php?image=qrliraqdw1.jpg)

Already done, waiting for my net from the UK!
Maybe one day I'll get myself a Para helmet! :D

God I am good. :D. But in any season, I think MARPAT beats any camo hands down.

Vince S
01-28-2007, 07:23 PM
It's all up to the operator to use his environment to take advantage of the camo. I saw people in ACU concealing themselves better in wooden area that people wearing Cadpat. Personnaly, Marpat doesn't work that fine here in Canada, but again, we're only airsofters and a Marine might be better in using the features of the camo.

nilz
01-28-2007, 07:44 PM
Maybe so, but you can't argue with the fact that someone in ACU will have to work harder to conceal himself in a brownish/greenish environment than the same person in MARPAT. The few people that were wearing ACU in today's and yesterday's games were all sticking out like a sore thumb, simply because none of the colours matched the most apparent tones in the environment...

grtz,
nilz

Vince S
01-28-2007, 07:48 PM
Of course a light color pattern is harder to conceal, but camo cannot work well everywhere... So that's why I disagree with Starfox that Marpat is better than anything...

My best exemple is from Vietnam, supposedly, tigerstripes was supposed to be the best for shadowy jungle of south east asia, but SOG ended up wearing plain OD sprayed black.

We did that the other day, out of an RH-53.

Seriously though we've got an event in about a month doing riverine insertion. By riverine I mean a fair-sized stream and by insertion it's probably paddling a john boat, maybe a zodiac.

Actually did some awesome back of a pickup stuff down in NC. Two trucks with probably 15-20 people pull over on the side of the road, you just hop out the back, and run in the woods. Gotta love the country.

I think i'm going to go either (A. Pour my own piss all over them..... or (B. Hose them with my brothers SAW.

Anyone wanna make this decision for me?

Well, decision (A.) is funny in a sick way, especially if you've watched Band Of Brothers. But the BOB way only truly works if (A. It's their piss, and (B. They keep it in a vase for some inexplicable reason. Otherwise, I'd go with the SAW option.

Yeah, the SAW option is funny, and it's probably safer. Go with (B)!

Nice touch.

Personally, I would have gone with one of those springloaded Chinese party-poppers that you twist the base, and it explodes in your face because you were holding it the wrong way!

It happened to me once, and for thirty-minutes I thought I was blind! Now I don't fire one of those off unless I'm wearing my Faux-kleys and flak vest!
