I'm looking for pictures of weapons(preferably sniper rifles, but i ain't too bothered) that have been painted in a camo pattern. I'm in the midst of painting my own M700 PSS, and need some inspiration :) May post pictures of my progress.

People posted pics with some really cool paintjobs here before. One that stands out in my mind is a digital pattern job.

Try to search for them. Can't do it myself because for some reason the board engine doesn't want to search for me.

The mistake is yours sir. It's not a C8.And it is MARPAT DESERT.

5/22/04 - Finally completed a project I started a couple of weeks ago - painting an AR. I had initially planned on just painting it sand colour, but then decided to take on the challenge of painting a MARPAT desert pattern instead. I had wanted a painted carbine that I could kick around and not worry about babying the finish of. I also wanted something lightweight and with the bare minimum mounted to it. I picked my oldest receiver to paint - an SP1 circa 1967 (hence the offset, double screw takedown). I figured I wouldn't be switching uppers on a painted receiver very often. I built a flattop with a Colt 16" pencil barrel, stole the RIS off another upper, and bought some new components for this project - replica Crane stock, PRI high Aimpoint mount, and LMT rear BUIS. I painted a Surefire 6P with shock proof bezel mounted in a Leupold QRW 1" ring on a Yankee-Hill angle mount. Tangodown rail panels complete the project.

Very nice paint jobs.

Got to laugh though, the magazine doesn't indicate what type of weapon it is at all. Does that mean if I use a Thermold mag in my SA80 it's a C7? You can use different mags in different guns, that's the point of STANAG!!!

If you are talking about the MARPAT M4 you are mistaken it's the real deal. It's an old Colt SP1 I emailed him about this and he replied with the photos below - this from his website I picked my oldest receiver to paint - an SP1 circa 1967 (hence the offset, double screw takedown). Yes, I use an airbrush.

For the digital patterns, I use hand cut templates I made by tracing out the pattern from actual CADPAT material samples on to clear overhead projector sheets.

They are re-usable, and clean up really nice with laquer thinner.

Skullboy
10-01-2004, 02:53 AM
The Rail system is made by Knights Armament Corp. for the M14(KAC M14 RAS).

They run around $525.00 U.S, but I got mine in trade for some paint work on a couple of rifles. ;)

The Deluxe M14 RAS (that is shown) has the optional Stripper clip Picatinney rail which allows you to mount a scope in the normal postion.

http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid138/p67aa66e91a825ab6da540fbbb3adb944/f727f8d2.jpg

You just have to make sure that you level the rear rail with the front rail when mounting a scope.

An update on the pattern, what looks like silver in the pattern, isnt. Thats a combination of a light grey paint, not put on thick enough so its glossy, and a flash. It is grey.

Thanks for the compliments.. I did that paint job about 4 years ago and it is still standing strong. The scope is an old Tasco World Class 8x32x50 Target scope with 1/8 MOA adjustment. Not very expensive but it has stood up to the test of 300 Win MAg rounds over 4 years without losing zero. Even won a couple of distance shooting comps here for sides of beef and pork.

Going back to the "lego" quotes. It was nice to see my work displayed on your forum...since this is where I got my inspration to do the arid CADPAT paint scheme in the first place.

Yes, it is an airsoft gun, and no it's not lego (not sure why the pic you have is kinda blocky looking). The G36 was on it's way to becoming an MG36 variant. Here are some pics of it "in the field"...looks much better outside and even better in "real life".

Here's my sniper-rig. The rifle is taped with whit sport-tape and then painted over with spray-paint. Gives a nice, rough finish. In the mean time, more burlap has been added.

I'd say no to it being airsoft. Its not any recognisable airsoft rifle, and the fact it appears to be a left handed receiver. How many airsoft guns are built for leftys? Answer: none.

What rig is it? As in, what rifle or barreled action in what stock?

sniper762nl
12-14-2004, 02:06 PM
Gents,

Rig is Savage left-hand long action with Savage barrel, cryo treated and diamond lapped afterwards. Stock is original, but I have a replacement stock on order.

Bipod is Parker Hale and the scope is Phrobis MkII 10x42 with mil-dot and level. Scope sits in ultra low rings by Burris on a Leupold base.

The rounds... ehhhh, I dunno, it's been a while since I made the picture. They might be dummies I used for action-drills, but they might just be live. Can't remember...

I'm suprised you didn't get the McMillan or the Choate-Plaster stock on the Savage. Those Savage's are fine rifles. Cheap, and VERY accurate. The stock keeps the price down.

Enjoy it?

sniper762nl
12-15-2004, 06:32 AM
I have mine since December '98, when the McMillan wasn't available yet. The Plaster thing is an absolute JOKE! Current factory stock was bedded with an epoxy-metal mix, which made it even more accurate than it already was. Stock is going to be replaced with the new tactical model from SharpShooterSupply. Next step is an extra barrel in 6,5x.284 Norma or .300 WSM.

I enjoy the rifle endlessly. It's a tack driver and it's nice to be able to keep pace with the Sako's on long range matches for half the money. Rifle is picky when it comes to ammo, but it's absolutely SWEET with the Lapua 185gr Scenars. If I ever have the cash, I'll replace the scope with a Nightforce NXS.

Good old sniper tape! ;)

Good paint jobs guys, but bog standard green sniper tape plus paint/cam cream does the job too.

(I know it's more of a labour of love than a means to an end, just saying)
