Article from Renegade Recon

Airsoft gun manufacturer Tokyo Marui unveiled set of new airsoft guns yesterday in Japan. We bet many couldn’t anticipate what was coming as expectations have been focusing to the M14 electric gun. New M4 AEG, another new AEG, completely new high performance handgun series and many other new guns were seen or heard for the first time. See the article for more news about latest Tokyo Marui products that were unveiled in Japan yesterday.

Many thanks to Frode Haugsgjerd for contributing to this report.

Showcased for apparently imminent release was new Tokyo Marui electric gun the ”M4 S-System”, which is an upgraded M4 AEG with new SIR-system type Marui S-System. This time the Marui M4A1 is equipped with aluminium one-piece barrel, rectrackable LE-type tactical stock, tactical looking black receiver to imitate rustproof paitn job, flip up front sight and new low profile flip up rear sight. When it comes to the S-System itself it has long upper rail, two side rails, under rail and sling swivel adaptor. The S-type battery goes inside the S-system and the weapon has been designed so that the battery exchange is quick and easy. The S-system is made of metal as is the handguard slip ring and the stock pipe for the new Marui LE type stock.

The front and back flip up sight are reproductions of the ones currently used by US military and they feature the same locking mechanisms as in real ones.

No information yet about Tokyo Marui M4 S-system price and release date. It will be interesting to see if there has been any minor modificiations to the operating mechanism and gearbox (M733 had different cylinder to the M4 for instance).

Whole new gun series of fixed slide automatic electric pistols are about to be launched by Tokyo Marui and what we have here is something that was deemed impossible in earlier days. Marui has quietly developed a whole new concept that was now unveiled for the first time. Pistols with miniature electric powered gearboxes. The new Marui G18Cs appear to be really neatly designed with mini gears aligned inside the grip just next to the vertically positioned piston. Small 7.2v 200mAh battery goes inside the slide under the inner barrel.

Performance is reported to be incredible with rate of fire of 900 rounds per minute and shooting range of 50 meters. That’s same as stock electric gun! The first of the new gun series is Glock 18C Tokyo Marui G18C Fixed Slide Automatic Electric Pistol and naturally 100 shot long magazine is already under works to let people really rip the firepower that these pistols offer. Few will want to imitate the Matrix and other movie scenes where G18Cs have been employed with long magazines. Although already mistakenly reported at some websites there is no blowback feature like in earlier Marui Electric Blowback G18Cs (to which this model is very different), hence the fixed slide classification.

Price for new Marui Glock 18C Automatic Electric Pistol is 15,800 Yen, which is probably reflection of the new mechanism and gives reason to believe that these new babies don’t fall into Boys or EBB categories. What effect these pistols will have to airsoft games is something to be seen and makes one wait with great curiosity.

Next in new release lineup is Type 89 AEG that comes hot in heels of MP5-J (the Japanese police MP5). Type 89 is 5.56mm assault rifle manufactured domestically in Japan for Self-Defence-Forces and has already been subject of several custom airsoft gun projects. As it is there are quite number of people playing with Ground-Self-Defence-Force (GSDF) impressions, but having to resort to old TOP Type 64 7.62mm battle rifle that has been already mostly phased out of service in Japanese military.

At the moment no specifications or details available about this release other than initial mid 2005 scheduled release.

Marui M14 AEG is being kept tightly under wraps as only de-activated real sample is shown. Release schedule of end of this year is being mooted and it appears that there will be two versions. One with wood stock and other one with green OD stock (the Marine corps version).

Marui Colt M1911A1 Goverment gas blowback pistol is under works (remember the poster shown in previous release report) and now we have also information that Glock 17 will be made as gas blowback. Marui also showed new 4.3 version of the Hi-Capa GBB that was reviewed a month ago here at RR. These gas blowbacks are in addition to the Marui SIG P226 gas blowback (that should go in sale anytime now) and the10inch barrel version of the Desert Eagle .50AE, which was reported earlier. In summary five new gas blowback pistols coming out from Marui in near future.

Is it only my impression that airsoft makers ran out of good ideas? I mean, how many more M4s and MP5s are there to be expected? Damn, why not SA80?

The Sa80 is made by academy, I'm not sure about its quality but it is out there (for alot cheaper then normal aeg's).

The M4S does look pretty good and different from the usual 'another M4  release', can anyone tell if that's a large battery attached to it on the display?

The Glock 18C sounds pretty interesting.

The Type 89 looks quite good but seems to be more aimed at Japanese airsofters, and imo will not be that successful outside Japan.

Looking forward to the P226 release, finally a decent and affordable SIG.

I'm also quite interested in the Colt 1911, hopefully will be reliable and more affordable then the WA versions.

The Glock 17 seems to be a waste imo. KSC already make a reasonably decent, reliable, and affordable Glock 17.

Sweet Jebus, an affordable SIR probably, not a huge fan, but it probably wont be much, so i might have to get one. And an affordable yet good 1911, im in heaven. And i cant wait for the 226.

Actually I hope that the producers get on the Automatic electric pistol stuff, because then possibly the GBB version will get cheaper :-)

What another M4 , great , its not as if there arent enough at the moment.
Classic army should see to it that they get their stuff instock again.

the SA80 is made by academy as mentioned before, but I have heard many a detremental comment about quality and reliability about it. Pretty much not worth the money.

It is kind of hard to understand why the producers wouldnt make a SA80.
I figure it would at least be a small sucess. They have produced aegs with a lot less of a crowd, ie famas .

A real xm8 would be nice :-)

Or a properly functioning, none tunup from the gecko neccessary LMg would be nice :-)

As for Academy SA80 - it's not much more than cr@p. I own one and it requires major upgrade do work mor or less properly (including fitting hop-up ) and it still doesn't change it's poor looks (HFC spring L85 look way better than that).

I've seen that Airsoft Club make a custom SA80, based on the Academy version. Tweaked to normal AEG standards, so they say.

why oh why? more plastic from TM. Why can't they start making som nice metal receivers? I just hope that ICS and CA starts to make better internals so that I never ever have to buy another TM plastic receiver, just to replace it with a reciever from G&P. :petting:
And a SIR-system from TM? personaly I'll go with the ICS SIR... mmmm full metal...

its funny that TM has had like 8 diffrent m4's while CA and ICS has easily outdone TM with the m4's by just a few releases :P

Not really. I've heard that CA's M15 gearbox is better then those before, but I've still heard about problems with them. And I've also heard that the ICS M4 gearbox is **** aswell.

I dont care what an ICS or CA gun comes with, metal body, 1 piece barrel, reenforced gearbox etc..., i will never buy anything but TM, unless its like a top or something, but it will have a conversion. But i dont care how "nice" the ICS and CA guns are with extras, you know a TM will always be more reliable if its worked on correctly. And the ICS and CA guns are better than before, but its taken them what, an average of 3 versions? Youre much wiser to spend the money upgrading a TM to metal than to a CA or ICs and having to replace internals.

Agreed with Bishop. I'll upgrade the hell outta my TM before I buy a CA or ICS, even if it ends up costing more when completed.

I still reading opinions like that , and i wonder how much it is true.In my city are many of Classic army guns (in fact all from newest series) and they all works pretty good.No problems with that from many many months, while using it no less then once a week.

In fact the only gun failures i saw were ICS Mp5sd and TM PSG1

so i thing that there is no rule about airsoft manufacturer...some people just have no luck :P

Backing to theme I'm really in love with new M4S!! If i'll buy next AEG it'll be that model for sure
