Practical usefulness of idea of this thing can be discussed but anyway my respects to amount of fire power concentrated here.

I guess the main purpose for it is to support and protect Tanks on the battlefield...... Almost like a sub that is designed to protect Aircraft carrier.

I'm pretty sure they will not use it for the purpose intented, they will end up using it agaist a house where 6 chechen terorists are making a stand.

It should be a useful tool for close quarters combat, but I think that thing should also be protected from the rear and flanks by the supporting motorised infantry.

It have same weight margin of 50 tons but don't have turret and large caliber gun. Thanks to that it was given very good protection by all types of additional armor.

That thing looks mean. I can't imagine what kind of damage it would do to a building.

What do you think is bad about it?

I found another pic of it while looking for more info about it (BMP-T), look at the 2nd to last tank on the right. Maybe you are looking at the future Russian tank formation, minus the T-34 ofcourse. ;)

This BMP-T concept should really be tested in urban combat environment before being approved. It appears that it has quite a devastating firepower but it can it hold its own in the urban combat?

I read, during the Chechen war, the Russians discovered that in many situations, the zsu-23-4 "shilka" and 2s6 "tunguska" were incredibly effective in providing vital fire support in convoy security. Their ability to elevate their gun systems much higher than the mbts and ifvs made them almost a necessity for a safer convoy. After numerous engagements, the triple-a vehicles were often targeted first.

I'm sure that should have something to do with the bmp-t's development. To me, the turret looks much easier to traverse in tight streets unlike the the long 125mm 2a46 barrels and it looks to have a wider range of elevation and depression than both mbts and ifvs. It also looks to have more eyes with gun systems behind them that most current tracked vehicles. More eyes is good, more weapons with eyes, even better.

I know the BTR-T can carry some infantry inside, can the BMP-T?

Firefly26

No, it wasn't built for the purpose of carrying troops. It has a crew of 5 with their own individual hatches.

It works for the Israelis.

The only thing I'd do to it for urban combat is maybe take off two of those rockets on one side and add an AA machine gun controlled by the commander. Then you could cover almost 360 degrees with all the weapons combined, it'd be hard to get near that thing.

I think its got enough weapons. That turret has 2 x 2a42 30mm auto-cannons which are at least as good as the 23mm. Its also got a PKT. The ATMs are good to have. Hell, we are using Javelins for everything except tanks in Iraq. The 2 AGS-30s on the corners can also be switched out with PKTs. That thing is stacked with weaponry. My only suggestion is to add a rapid firing RPO-A. (evil smirk)
