Dear All,

I am looking for people who have had experience with Systema Metal bodies.
I have procured one, and for the first time attempted myself to convert a standard Tm Sr16 to the metal body with the included systema metal hopup unit.
Well I will be damned if I didnt lose 5 years of my life last night.
Here are a few questions,

1.
How does systema expect the dustcover to stay closed if they do not provide a latch system that will work with their upper receiver. I attempted to deinstall the lacth system from the original TM dust cover and set it into the systema dustcover, yet the dimensions do not fit, the original latch system is approx 1-2mm o widr, and the neccessary holes for latching in the latch system is not there.

2.
How does systema further expect to recreate the function of the charging handle, if it instructs you to remove the the plastic part that in the original charging handle and dustcover, activates the latch to open the dustcover via the spring to make available the hopup selector wheel.

3.
Why does the systema metal body pretty much make impossible to use the whole great function of the Armalite series receiver that you can disassemble the upper receiver from the lower receiver, if the standard TM gearbox has to be pushed in there so hard, that you are more likely to break something before you can open it.

4. Now this is probably due to fault wire routing, but the motor seems to get stuck now instead of bouncing back at me when pushed down.I think this is realy due to a mistake on my part. I cant realy take the chacne of actually using it now , because I really dont feel like smoking the motor.

5. Body pins. Not doable without a hammer. It is really in now :-)

Otherwise the metal body in correlation to the sr16 RIS makes for a very sturdy AEG. A little bit heavier, but really nominally. And with a Elcan replica installed makes for a very nice toy.

I realy need some people with experiences that have maybe faced these problems and know what the reasons or possibly what solutions they took to get the system to function properly.

Many thanks in advance for any info available.

kind regards
david.

First of all when you buy things like a metal aftermarket body you should figure that A: its not going to fit correctly with-out some slight mods and B: some-things might not be accessible anymore (mainly hop up units).

Got a dremmel? My hop-up unit on my mp5a4 isnt accessible at all with the metal body on it, even the latch to open the chamber to adjust it doesnt fit (the plastic one) with the metal body. Its a real headache for anyone attempting to work on the gun, so much of 1 in fact that you better have the hop-up set right before you re-assemble the gun otherwise your going to be taking it apart again (which sounds like something you should try).

Yep, nothing like friction holding the beast together. Had a G3-SG1 a while ago and the only thing holding the barrel in place was friction as one of the barrel mounts had a crack in the plastic. Shot straight as an arrow.

Overall good luck dude, may the airsoft gods smile upon your sr-16

how did you install the metal body? i have two systema bodies and they went together without any problems..unlike some CA bodies I have had.

The mechbox goes into the upper FIRST along with the hop-up unit...then its attached to the lower. the problems with the motor is the usual suspect...the wires are not in the groove of the pistol grip...the motor is binding on them.

If you have any other questions feel free to PM me.

Cheers

Systema metal bodies are provided with their own dust covers. The dust covers are intended to be spring loaded in the close position. Opposit of what real steel covers does. You need to manually pry the dust cover open with your finger nails to access the hopup unit. Therefore, the use of the charging handle to pop the dust cover open is no longer required.

I love my Systema metal bodies. Installation can be a bitch, but they are rock solid!

Lol Bchild :-) Yep bought the dremmel alone for the installation and future airsofting conversions and stuff.
I must admit I hadnt dremmeled anything! It was very very tight sticking it together, but otherwise the thing went together rather well. The Hopup unit went nice and snug and the nozzle seems to have seated itself well into the hopup. I need to get the wiring done first in the grip though, a colleague has offered to give me a hand.

Now to my next problem , the Prmie crane stock, and the missing parts that the wankers didnt ship with it . Lol they basically missed all the "basic parts 2 they could so I have a stock, and no way to assemble it :-)

Thanks for the answers and keep them coming.
