Nah, its all about the deployment of that guy and his dog via helicopter. Mortimer, what's up with that whole thing anyways? Does the 1RAR have a definite K9 element (or whatever it may be called in Australia), or is this something done for show or for specific reasons surrounding the peacekeeping mission?

Mortimer

1RAR would have K9 units attached to it, for example in the solomons they would be pretty useful so they send them over....there are a number of K9 units in the ADF however

Australians are quite high-profile, don't you think?

A military that is supported by the general mass is crucial for any government, especially the current Australian government. We have taken part in many operations over the past 5 years or so, and naturally alot of the people have been asking "why!?!?". These 'high profile' photos are necessary to keep the public commited to the right causes. An Australian seeing his/her fellow countrymen help shape the world is a very patriotic thing, which is a trait we just can't get enough of. I believe that seeing your country's soldiers in foreign lands or even on exercise help stirs support. Even with a pinch of patriotism one should feel good about seeing the people who are behind keeping one's way of life intact and well defended.
