MOUNT SAINT HELENS NATIONAL MONUMENT, WA - OCTOBER 7: A tortured landscape remains in the blast zone of the 1980 eruption of Mount Saint Helens, in the distance, which created the biggest landslide ever recorded, on October 7, 2004 in Mount Saint Helens National Monument, Washington. Seismic activity returned overnight and the volcano resumed releasing steam. The level three volcanic warning had been downgraded to level two, temporarily reducing the expectation of a major eruption. In 1980, a huge eruption on Mount Saint Helens blew the top off the volcano and sent volcanic ash around the world. It also produced possibly the largest landslide ever recorded, wiped out an entire forest, and killed 57 people. (Photo by David McNew/***** Images)
