In the Book - SAS The World's Best by Peter Darman it compares the Elite Maritime Units around the world including British SAS and SBS, US Navy SEALs, French Naval Special Forces, Isreali S13, Italian COMSUBIN to name a few. The author comes to a conclusion that states "COMSUBIN has the best overall training and resources".

What does everyone think of this...do you think its true or a load of bull****. And based on your knowledge who do you think is the best Naval Special Warfare Unit?

Another topic about "Who's best"??

I doubt that anyone can judge that if he hasn't been with all the units...

Units like these all are on a very high-level, they crosstrain with each other and - like in so many posts before - people are biased. The Italians will say COMSUBIN is the best, the Germans wil favour their "Kampfschwimmer", the Americans will vote for the SEALS...

Boring... :bash:

There's one person who occasionally posts on this board who could provide some decent information on this topic...

It doesn't say who's the best. It says "COMSUBIN has the best overall training and resources".

That doesn't translate to My Daddy can kick your Daddy's ass ... it translates to My Daddy has more cash than your Daddy ... ok, i "admit the last part of the question is "who's the best" ... .

I want to find out the facts and base my oppinion on them....rather than be biased like others. I'm British myself...I could say "Ohhh the SBS are the best in the world, better than everyone"....But it would be wrong for me to say that....without knowing the facts and like you said having served being able to base my oppionion on evidence. I want to find out people's oppinions about this see what they think and why. Again, it appears that the topic "Who is best" is an extremely interesting topic to talk about...probably why soo many people have mentioned it although like you said is a very difficult decision to make.

In this book (SAS - The World's Best by Peter Darman) actually states in the first chapter that comparing Special Forces is in fact futile because every unit has different roles but still goes on and makes a judgement about who he (The author) thinks is best in different areas....which includes: - Selection and Training, By Air, By Water, By Land, Counter-terrorism, Counter-insugency etc.

I think this book I was refering to is the only book I've ever found which the author tries to make a comparison between the world's special forces. However, after reading what he says....it seems to me that he is possibly biased in the first place. He provides little evidence on his conclusion at the end of each chapter regarding who he thinks is best and only seems to have a narrow field of Special Forces units in which he compares. Even though the book is fairly old (1993 I think) doesn't include units such as German KSK, Doesn't really look at US Delta and other important units that he either doesn't mention or doesn't really concentrate on and go into much detail in his comparison.

You can write a book about anything you like. Peter Darman (The Author) is actually british and is a former research officer for the Ministry of Defence specialising in Soviet affairs. He has written a fair few other books on the subject of Special Forces (SAS). I'm sure he knows and has access to a lot of information. His book is very interesting and in my oppinion I like it better because he actually shows his oppinion (Being different) compared to most other books which spew out the same information and same pictures but written in a different manner. THis is why I thought his book was very good because he gives you information about various special forces units and then makes an assumption on who HE thinks is best. There is nothing wrong about that....you might disagree on his oppionion but doesn't mean he's a "Wanker" or doesn't know what he's talking about.

I want to know what you think....and make it ****ing sensible. That's the whole point of this forum is to talk and find out what everyone thinks.....

If Histroy matters in this (never-ending) discussion, the Italians essentially invented Combat Diver Units in WWII. The few big italian military succeses were due to those pioneers.

And yes, COMBUSIM are quite a good unit.
