No, I don't think the US still uses the Sea King. The Navy primarily uses HH-60 Seahawks, HH-53 Sea Dragons, and I think they may operate Sea Knights.

Why? because those are the forum rules.

Sea Kings crash all the time in canada...
the mechanics say that you need 10hours of repair for 1 hour of flight.

10 to 1 aint bad...a B-2 needs 119 man-hours of maintanance for every flight hour...

There's an Air Force One and a Marine One.

Is there a Navy One or an Army One? I know there was once a presidential yatch...was that designated anything particular?

Marine Corps Helicopter Sq. 1 (HMX-1) "Nighthawks" actually consists of two types of squadrons. "Whiteside" which tends to execuative transport, and "Greenside" which acts as the USMC helicopter R&D squadron basically. It is also the largest squadron in the USMC with over 700 members (ground crew, mechanics, etc.) Each member gets a nice THOROUGH back-ground check by both the Secret Service and the Marine Corps before even being considered. :) The unit is stationed at MCAF Quantico, VA. (interesting note- this is the only squadron in the Marine corps to operate Sea King and 'Hawk varients.)

It currently has 11 VH-3D Helicopters. These are the execuative version of the vernable sea king. Only when the President is on board does it use the callsign "Marine One", otherwise it uses the tail numbers just like any other aircraft. (Interesting note, the USMC does not have a MOS for the Sea King. Pilots that are selected go to a private training course run by a contractor, not the military.)

The also have 8 VH-60Ns. These are execuative versions of the now-US Army standard UH-60 Blackhawk. These are occasionally used for Presidential transport, but usually used for transporting members of the cabinet, senators, etc.

"Greenside" has the more common collection of USMC helos: 6 CH-46E Sea Knights, 6 CH-53E Super Stallions and 1 UH-1N.

The 89th Airlift Wing, stationed at Andrews AFB, maintains the following aircraft for execuative use:

2 VC-25As (Boeing 747-200Bs), either of which can serve as "Air Force One".

3 C-9s (McDonnald Douglas DC-9s).

3 C-20Bs (Gulfstream 3s) which are used to transport the President to smaller airfields that can not handle the VC-25's large size. (President will travel to nearest large airfield via VC-25, then to smaller/closer field via C-20s)

4 (?) C-32As (first delivered in june of 1998)

The Presidential yatch was/is named USS SEQUOIA served from 1933 (Hoover) to 1977 (Carter). It is now privately owned as a charter boat- however many of the "clients" are Senators, Secretaries, etc.

AFAIK there isn't a "Navy/Army One".

Hope I helped :D

Oh, forgot, UH-3H Sea Kings are flying with the following US Navy squadrons in mainly logistical/ SAR roles:

HC-2 Fleet Angels
HC-11 Gunbearers
HC-85 Golden Gaters
HS-75 Emerald Knights
VC-8 Redtails

UH-3Hs also serve as Execuative transports to CO 6th Fleet (Naples, Italy), CO 5th fleet (Manama, Bahrain) and CO 2nd fleet (Norfolk, United States.)

:)
