Mark Tobin, 35, of Eagle Point, work on installing new protective side panels on a Humvee troop carrier Tuesday, October 12, 2004 at Patrol Base Volunteer near Baghdad. The panels, made of a fibrous Kevlar material similar to the lining in body armor, are capable of withstanding bullets and shrapnel from blasts and replace much-heavier and less-safe sand-packed plywood panels. Casperson is with Alpha Company's mortar platoon and Tobin is the executive officer for the company which is part of the Second Battalion, 162nd Infantry of the Oregon National Guard.
