SAS: The Real Story

Desert New four-part series covering the history of the elite unit, exploding the myths and exploring the intense secrecy surrounding one of the world's toughest fighting regiments. The first instalment focuses on the SAS's little-known operations in Oman in 1958, the success of which established its credentials as an elite desert fighting force, an accolade reinforced over the following decades during campaigns in Dhofar, Iraq and Afghanistan. Those who served with the unit reveal how they often had to beat the odds to succeed in their tasks, including one battle in which nine soldiers defended a fort against 400 rebels

The SAS in Oman. According to everything i've read this is one of the truly SF oriented, victoriours campaigns.

I saw a trailer for this yesterday, and am looking forward to it. Hopefully some of our US cousins can catch it on cable, as it will no doubt provide loads of chatter on this forum later in the week.
I hope they have footage of the SAS at that fort (Muzari - Al Sharrif I think) in the 'Stan where Taliban prisoners broke out. I saw some great footage of a guy firing a heavy machine gun from the waist over a mud parapet.
I'll be disconnecting the phone while that's on!! :)

Yeah it looks pretty good. Interviews with ex SAS soldiers who were there in the think of it. One being the scotish guy I think called "Johnny". Scottish guy (****ing hard as nails). I have a another SAS vid (SAS - Complete Soldiers Story). He's in it (But with face blacked out). He was in the Iranian Embassy Assault.

Yeah I think they do go into Afghanistan and have footage of the SAS at the Prison uprising. SAS guy in civies with a GPMG firing from the hip with belt ammunition hooked over his other arm (Eat your heart out Rambo).

Hope you all who have access enjoy it.

Cheers Mike

It was good, looks like they've devided it into types of terrain for each episode. Next wk jungle!
I didn't understand how when he was moving with the GPMG to another position he didn't just get picked off, or was that just luck?
Hope they have the prison uprising from Afghanistan...
