Why is it preferable that the third wire be caught...What's wrong with the other three?

There are four wires on Nimitz class carriers. To catch the third is ideal. Chatching the second makes one a hotshot. However, catching the first consecutively may result in eventually flying too low and a possible crash into the fantail of the boat. Catching the fourth (last) barely qualifies as a sucessful landing and repeated 'delays' may result in a touch and go - a dangerous proposition on a carrier, considering fuel limitations, others planes in the approach pattern and especially while attempting to land an entire Air Wing in total radio silence...

Hope it helped, Seiyuuki!
