--not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I was wondering if there are any current/former combat photographers for any of the armed services here.

I'm really interested in doing it as a step along the path to becomming an AP or ******* photog and I wanted to know what your experiences/vices were with the job.

Well..I haven't formally done any combat photography, althoug I shot some video during my stay with the UN in Croatia in '95. I have posted a small video about on Militaryphotos.net (Operation oluja).

If you have an interest in going this way I suggest you get some military training, that is, join your nation's armed forces, get some overseas deployment and then deside if you still want to go to bang-bang places. If military service is not your thing, get some "HEAT" training (Hostile Environment Awareness Training), there's some good companies around providing such courses: www.akegroup.com and http://www.centurion-riskservices.co.uk/

I understand your interest in this field, I would like to do this one day my self.
