Just a random topic...

Has anyone here played "America's Army" or one of the other 1st person shooters out there, like "Ghost Recon"? What is your favorite, and how is it better than the other games currently available?

America's Army is very good, as is Day of Defeat. Operation Flashpoint had amazing potential in multiplayer, but the netcode is so horrible it makes me want to puke just thinking about it.

Ghost Recon is very cool, though I don't play it much.

I love Ghost Recon, Americas Army (although I haven't played it in a LONG time), Operation: Flashpoint Resistance (I like Resistance much better than the normal one), and Medal of Honor.

I would say..... Desert Combat the battlefield 1942 mod.

I loved Ghost Recon although I just downloaded a demo of the upcoming Rainbow Six: Raven Shield, and its f*cken excelent!!! Heaps of weapons and accessories for them aswell! Cant wait till it gets released! Check it out at http://www.raven-shield.com/

BTW, theres something about the weapon sounds in games that determines how fun it is for me. Does anyone else notice this? If the sounds are very realistic and powerfull it really makes the whole feel of the game just so much better! I especially love the 'clink' of a silenced MP5.

I have always liked the Tom Clancy games. The Rainbow Six series is undeniably in a league of its own. But, its about time they did something new with it; Raven Shield looks awesome. The screenshots look INSANE. Ghost Recon was great, kinda continuing the Clancy legacy of being one step ahead of the world. But, I'd say that the new Black Hawk Down game finally looks like a stab in the right direction for Nova Logic. The 1st person view is one of the most realistic I've ever seen. Also, SWAT 3 was definitely a classic. The second CD (which contains actual training footage of some elite teams) is one that I'll be keeping safe. Overall, I think Ghost Recon is the winner. p-)

Yeah SWAT 3 was pretty damn good, just finished it again! I really like the team control in it aswell, after a little while you just know the numbers as second nature and its really comfortable. But I agree Ghost Recon has probably been the best so far. I'm gonna have to do some checking up on Black Hawk Down, see what all the fuss is about :)

the black hawk down game doesn't look that good. it looks ok. raven shield looks to be much better. games based on movies usually aren't that good. what would make the bhd game better is if it was on xbox and xbox live capable.

Consoles suck at first person shooters. Period. No exceptions (well, except for Halo).

You simply can't beat a PC when it comes to the FPS genre...leave action-adventure games and RPGs to the consoles.

i can never get my computer to play games that well and i don't feel like spending more than i already have on it. and shooters don't suck on consoles, ghost recon is good on xbox. besides people always end up cheating in games on computers.

I have to disagree.....Xbox's Halo simply owns all other console games. Halo II is bound to kick some serious ass too. :)

My fav. right now is MoH. I am planning on getting the new pacific campaigns one early next year :).

Another vote for SOF2 Double Helix. This game kicks ass and has tons of mods. If you havent ever tried it buy it for sure. I think its way better then any rainbow six game or swat 3 or any of those.

My money's on Raven Shield. Most accurate portrayal of a wide variety of weapons with a graphics and sound engine that aims to please. I just got 2 servers up and running for the retail version of it over on the AIX side of things.

Operation Flashpoint all the way.

The above point about the game's netcode was definitely correct, BUT they have since released a total rewrite of the netcode which has made the game completely playable online. The patch was actually part of the expansion pack Operation Flashpoint: Resistance. You can also buy the Operation Flashpoint: Game of the Year Edition which includes the main game and the expansion (and some other expansion stuff too).

All the other games have nothing on OFP...

- Ironsights and optics aiming, not crappy Quake crosshairs
- Multi-force combat. Play as infantry, snipe from 900m+, fly a chopper or jet as CAS, fight with a M1, M2, T80, etc.
- Far more than just infantry fighting or close combat in cramped buildings.
- Realistic ballistics, gotta lead those targets and account for drop (but not wind, bugger)
- Best outdoor terrain of any game (10km x 10km islands) where you can roam
- Top notch shrubbery and scenery
- The realism sticklers who hang out disecting military photos can appreciate.
- Last but not least... play in 2 team games with 10-15 players per side.

All sorts of cool stuff (harrier and hornet of high interest)

Ok I'll stop hawking OFP to you guys now. Hehe. But if you like military stuff there's really no better game. And the squads and tournaments are top notch (many with a majority of members actively in the military).

Did I mention that the US Army, USMC, and many others have officially adopted OFP as one of their next generation combat sim for soldiers?

:D :) :D

I'd have to say the Rainbow Six line. Those games have redefined FPS.
