ok here goes.. (sorry about the dumb picture it was the only i could find, imagen the guy with the gun was looking towards you) well some one is held in this position you have a standard 9.mm and your stood about 5 meters away.. i was told that if you hit the guy with the gun on the chin he tends to relax his muscles as he dies therefore less chance of pulling the trigger then lets say if you hit him in the forehead where he tends to tighten the muscles and could pull the trigger by mere reaction to the impact...

Basically, if you shoot him him through the nose and have penetration to the rear of the cranium you will hit the medulla oblongata, which is your actual target.
By destroying the m.o. you will have destroyed the neural path between the brain and spinal cord thus shutting down the central nervous system.

I am sure Moughan or other snipers can explain this in greater detail and with more accuracy.

I was trained that if you make the shot in the cranial ocular cavity, that you will turn him off like a light switch.

As a side note, no hostage taker is going to leave himself that exposed. All you will see is an eye, while he is bobbing and weaving, but still trying to track you. Only a moron would even give you a shot at the chin.

I have found (in FOF) that if you stage your sight picture off of the hostages shoulder and let the hostage taker move into the sight picture, you can take the shot much quicker than trying to track him.
