Its the 28th of October already here...one of our two major National Celebration days. In October the 28th, 1940 the Greek dictator Ioannis Metaxas responded negatively to the Italian ultimatum requiring Greece to surrender to the axis.

In a nutshell, Italy declared war right after the expiration of the ultimatum and Greece's loud NO to the axis' plans. After 7 months of tough battles up on the mountains of Pindos, the Greeks, taking advantage of their moral, their chaotic landscape and one of the most harsh winters of the 20th century, pushed the Italians back. The Greek forces advanced way inside Northern Heperus (what is know today as southern Albania) and practically pushed the Italians into the Ionian sea.

Once again, the Greeks were largely outnumbered and armed with inferior weaponry, kicked some macaroni ass woot p-)
Poor Benito...he should have read a bit of history before invading Greece, through one of its most chaotic and rough territories.

Of course the Germans came after that and fought with a devastated army of an already impoverished country but once again it was not easy. Taking France was far more easy for them for example p-) .

This belongs actually to the military history section but since we re celebrating it today... ;)
