Hey fellas, I have a buddy of mine whos' offering some free gear to anyone who can answer all these questions right, so I figured I'd enlist anyone that may want to help here...
He has a bit of an unfair advantage, as he was in Somalia at the time, but I figured I'd do my best. So, here they are.
Question#1: Did Durant receive a POW Medal during the war in Somalia?
#2 What Quick Reaction Force went in to save Task Force One?
(You must know Division, Battalion, and Regiment)
#3 What Black Hawk was the first to go down in Somalia?
(Think wisely on this one boys!) MY COMMENT: I think he's refering to a chopper that went down BEFORE the October raid in the Bakar market. Just a hunch...
#4 What were the Somali fighters group called?
(Don't answer this with "skinnies" either.)
#5 What elements made up Task Force Ranger?
YOU must name them all!
Well there they are... thanks in advance to anyone who can help. I can answer some of them, but I'm pretty iffy on a few. Some I just don't know at all...

No.1 could be a trick question,as it asks "during" the war,was he not awarded these medals after the pull out, when he got back stateside
No.2 Could possibly also include the Pakistani troops
No.4 Could also be the Habegedir or something like that........skinnies is easier to say!!!!
Good luck!!!

Some info on question number 4:
The Habr Gidr was the name of Aidid's clan. The SNA was the military/political ''arm'' of the clan itself. (Page 92, Black Hawk Down.)

Air Force special tactics personnel
If you wanna get REAL technical you would call them AFCCTs. Air Force Combat Control Technicians.
But I'm pretty sure you already knew that. ;)

I hear you Vance.
Also, the proper name is th PRISONER OF WAR MEDAL with no MIA part. NO MIAs are eligible for the POW Medal. And finally decorations/service medals are presented as MEDALS. NO personnel recieves their "medals" as a ribbon.
I'm sure he also knew that.

How were Army Special forces applied?

Special Forces served in Southern Somalia. But I don't think they were part of TFR. Special Forces were not on scene during the Oct 3-4 raid.

I know guys from the 5th Special Forces Group were deployed in Operation Restore Hope, however, things are sketchy on how they were involved in the raids of Oct. 3rd.

UMMM...Why don't you ask your dad about the POW Medal or learn through official military sites, such as the one I provided. Here's a ROTC site (university not Junior).

You have now certified yourself as militaryphotos.net village idiot. No. Now think of the numerous situations where personnel can go from accounted to POW. I can think of thousands and know of several various scenarios.
And the point is there is no MIA Ribbon.

The Vietnam service medal and MIA ribbon are of the same design. The MIA ribbon is not intended for wear on the uniform.

You just showed me the the ribbon of the VIETNAM SERVICE MEDAL.
Why the edit?? Put it back up.

WTF are you talking about, first you claim CW4 Durant won this fictious MIA/POW Ribbon, then you claim he won the VIETNAM SERVICE MEDAL for actions IN SOMALIA.
You are a pure BULL****ER.
If you read that site, you will realise that this VSM is for well...personnel who served in VIETNAM
Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't Somalia on the Horn of Africa and Vietnam in SE Asia? I might be wrong.
Furthemore, the this pissy little flame shouldn't continue on a solemn day.
Rest in Peace to our fallen comrades.

I laugh at your incompetence. When did i ever say Durant was in Vietnam?
Go read In the Company of Heroes by Mike Durant and you'll see where it says he earned the MIA/POW Ribbon.
For the last time, the Vietnam service medal and MIA ribbon are of the same design. That does not mean they are the same medal. They have the same design. Also if you read on, it says it is not intended for wear on the uniform.

Perhaps you should e-mail Mike Durant and find out if there is POW/MIA ribbon. If his own book and the POW Network states he has it, I believe them more than a "TYR".

Vietnam Missing in Action Medal
...This medal commemorates the military service of those who are missing in action in Vietnam and whose status remains unknown. It was presented by the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the President pro tempore of the Senate jointly, on behalf of the Congress, to those American personnel listed as missing or otherwise unaccounted for in Southeast Asia, to be accepted by their next of kin.

You claim to be in college, however you lack the analytical thought of a high school junior.
From your post you claim Durant won a POW/MIA ribbon, but now you claim its this MEDAL. This medal is, however, for Vietnam MIA. NOW MAY I ASK WAS DURANT IN THE VIETNAM WAR????????
Again this medal from a nonDOD site claims this MEDAL not RIBBON is for VIETNAM VETS. Do you understand? I know, ask daddy at bedtime to better understand this.

Here's another rack builder from the NG, a military website. http://www.arng.army.mil/tools/ribbonRack/build.asp?service=1
No listing of the medal which you speak of :( (first time i used emoticon)
Look TF, civilians are sometimes plain out wrong; in your case they are. My beef with you is that you claim to be a cadet however you can't discern between a ribbon and medal. It may seem trite, but you lack the attention to detail attitude and humility to learn from your own mistakes. And furthermore, after being proved wrong about the entire episode you still trudge on in ignorant bliss--just because your ego can't handle it. Lastly, claiming you know so and so doesn't make you a MAN in anyone's eyes. Remember "Its not rank, wealth, or station in life, but to the duty of this country."
Unlearn these terrible habits of arrogance and immaturity before its too late.
