I would...once they show themselves they are toast. Our guys have superior weapons and training. Its just an issue of finding THEM first.

I guess I lost MY faith way too long ago to do this kind of stupid things...

I would also use those tactics. They are fighting evil over there, and once it comes to you, you can destroy it.

More than likely though your vehicle would get hit with an RPG, and in the chaos the attackers would disappear into the sidestreets, hide their weapons and carry on their lives as normal. (Until the next attack)

On the other hand, nothing would please me more than gunning down the guys who had just shot at my comrades!

"Russell's men snap their black night-vision goggles over their eyes, train their rifles with white lights on roofs and rumble along at five miles (eight km) an hour past dark side-streets that are ideal for hit-and-run assaults."

Anyone else see a problem here? They've got better eyesight than me if they can see through the white light polution with their NVGs on. But then I forgot, they're guided by God (s******, ok!) and can't fail. rofl

This strikes me as being a sensationalist representation of a normal occurance. Our lads (UK) will patrol down areas where fedayeen are known to be. How else are they going to deal with them? You can't target 'hit and run' guerrillas by sitting in an APC out in the desert ready for manouever warfare. You've got to get stuck in there and rout them out.

The only odd thing about this practice is that the commander is a bible-basher and is slightly looney 'is that all you got', playing hymns etc, etc.
Col. Tim Collins was a charismatic leader, and sometimes was a tad unorthadox. I think you'd be hard pressed to find a British officer who would claim his unit was protected by god, though, and even harder pressed to find squaddies who'd follow him! :)

"Dear Dad, hope you kill the bad guys. Love, Patricia."

I think I'd be a bit worried if my eight-year-old girl said that to me. But there you go.

Sabre, you seem to have encapsulated the different ways in which the UK and US go about fighting wars in the modern arena. Notice the bit about the guy who volunteered for 12 sentry duty, that would be me if my CO wanted me to patrol the badlands in well lit open spaces!
I'm gonna keep an eye out for the CO's name in the casualty lists...
