These losses will be heartfelt within the battalion, this is the 4th fatality in a week............please leave politics out of this thread, and remember Soldiers are only doing their duty, there is no point in joining an Infantry regiment if you're not prepared to fight.

I'm going to open another thread in the equipment section reference the Warrior IFV's........as it seems to me that this vehicle is NOT providing our lads adwquate protection in lieu of IED's.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

REGIMENTAL PRAYER
Almighty, merciful, and loving Father,
you are the one who hears all our prayers and grants our petitions.
We ask you to remember, as we do,
the tremendous sacrifice made by those who went before us.
They have given their lives so that we might live and breathe freely.
We ask you to receive them into your hands.
Father, give us the strength and wisdom to learn from their example,
to uphold freedom and life at home and around the world.
Keep us vigilant as we guard the frontiers of freedom.
Give our leaders the wisdom and the strength to lead well.
Grant all of us courage and confidence.
Be, for all of us, troopers, a wise counsel in keeping peace
and a strong shield for us against our enemies.
Oh heavenly Father, give us the determination
that the peace and freedom won at such a high price be lasting!
Father, hold all of the troopers in the palm of your almighty hand
and protect them in the shadow of your wings.
Amen.

I have heard of the Black Watch, but not sure what kind of unit it is. You said infantry regiment, but calling a unit "Black Watch" seems like it's more than that. Any info would be appreciated, thanks.

It is referred to as the Black Watch because that is its famous historical regimental name.

This is just sad, and no itīs not a political statement, just a quote from the article.
http://www.cnn.com/2004/WORLD/meast/11/08/iraq.uk/index.html
Responsibility for the attack, which also killed an Iraqi interpreter and
injured eight other soldiers, was claimed on Friday night by followers of
Abu Musab al-Zarqwai, the terrorist leader.
Following a regimental tradition, a lone piper, Pipe Major Scott Taylor, 34,
from Glasgow, stood on the key Jurf Al Sukhr Bridge over the Euphrates
at dawn Sunday to play a lament for his dead colleagues.
http://i.a.cnn.net/cnn/2004/WORLD/meast/11/08/iraq.uk/story.iraq.jpg
Pipe Major Scott Taylor, 34, plays
his bagpipes on the Jurf-Al-Sukhr
Bridge over the Euphrates River in Iraq.
"Because of operational reasons we can't get back to the UK for funerals
so it was just played as a mark of respect to the three guys who were
lost out here last week," Taylor told PA.
Private Lowe's 18 year-old brother, Craig, who returned from Basra last
month told The Times newspaper "He thought they shouldn't be there, they
should all just be back here because it's a war which nobody knows why it
was started or what it was done for."
Private Lowe said that his brother had thought little of Bush and his reasons
for going to war.
"He just thought he was [...] starting a war over nothing, trying to get money
and oil," he said. "I think they should just get them all out of there now
because if not we are going to lose a lot more than this."

What exactly is the sad part?
The pipers lament or the politics I asked to be left out of this topic!!!! :bash:
People here need to remember soldiers are bound by their duties, everyone of them swore an oath of allegiance to the Queen and Country, sure all of us griped about certain situations, but we followed orders and we went about our duties in a professional manner,I can understand the brothers sentiment, but you join an Infantry Regiment to train to kill an enemy!!..........anyone who thinks otherwise is pretty naive
yeah we all know how hardcore you are, give it a rest allready
who's says the brother is not following orders? Who says his KIA brother was not following orders? From what I can tell they both went and they both did their duty inspite of their 'reservations' about the war and one of them got killed so from were I stand they are good soldiers.
so what exactly is the sad part?
ONE BRITISH SOLDIER GOT KILLED
That is the sad part, just say R.I.P. and go rant somewhere else.

The Black Watch is one of our oldest and finest Infantry Regiments - the 42nd of Foot - tracing its origins back at least to 1725.
They fought in the Basra area during the invasion of Iraq last year, and were sent out again for a second tour.
Along with all the Scottish Infantry Regiments, 1BW is currently under threat of merger/disbandment by the lastest in a line of indiotic defense cuts proposed by the British government (not politics - fact).
This is another very sad loss which will be felt hard by the lads of The Fighting Forty Twa

Read he topic start before shooting your mouth off............I started this topic and I asked for politics to be left out of this,
I have and that's not the point I was trying to make
wether the statement belongs in the topic or not, you were insinuating that the guy's brother is naieve and should not be in the infantry.
and you have no clue, not one single clue about how I feel and think.........They are fellow Jocks and I share there grief..........and I have lost pesonal friends in combat
Frankly I don't even care, I don't know you and I probably never will ... just don't tell this guy how he should feel about the war or about losing his brother
so I'd advise you to be very carefull in our choice of words when addressing me!! :fork:

I'm not sure where this thread went South but out of respect for the soldiers that are going home in boxes let's stop now!
This is a thread to honor men who left all that they knew to try and help all others keep all they have; and they ended up giving all they had for all of us!
Confusing isn't it! Meant it to be; but if you read it a couple of times it makes sense. Let's try and do that to other peoples posts from now on before we start pounding them, please!

I have and that's not the point I was trying to make
No so what point were you trying to make then?Like I said I asked for politics to be LEFT out of this topic, others chose to bring them in!!
wether the statement belongs in the topic or not, you were insinuating that the guy's brother is naieve and should not be in the infantry.
Read the part where stated I understand the brothers sentiment!! The rest was directed at NON SERVING personnel........you made an assumption.........you were wrong! But I can guess where you can interpret this the wrong way!!
and you have no clue, not one single clue about how I feel and think.........They are fellow Jocks and I share there grief..........and I have lost pesonal friends in combat
Frankly I don't even care, I don't know you and I probably never will ... just don't tell this guy how he should feel about the war or about losing his brother
I am not telling this guys brother,I'm telling everyone here who has the notion of serving in an Infantry unit in the future, that your job is to become a trained killer, who's mission is to kill the enemy before he kills you!!...........a concept you can't seem to grasp!!The Infatry is not the boy scouts!!
so I'd advise you to be very carefull in our choice of words when addressing me!! :fork:
I can't, ban me if you want but that's how I feel
Childish remarks!! and it is noted you did pay your respects, the very same way I did in the topic opener!

Argyll. Honestly man.
The CNN article took up the KIA soldiers views on the war in which he was killed.
In which way is that not relevant in a thread about him? To me it looks
more like itīs you that try to make some politics of this. His brother has all the right
in the world to say what he wants, thatīs democracy and I believe that is the reason
to why his late brother was in Iraq in the first place. I... hope... that you agree.
And if you somehow think that Iīm disrespecting a fallen hero I suggest that you
go and... well. Because Iīm absolutely not disrespecting anyone.

and is this not a POLITICAL view?........now correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think any soldier in a combat zone is overjoyed about being there, but they obey orders and follow orders, and show true proffesionalism.......do they not?
The thread my friend was not about an individual it was about 3 men who fell in the line of duty........and as a fellow Scot and an ex Highlander and working in Iraq,I am sympathetic to their cries,my own ex Regiment were replaced by 1 BW,and they too suffered casualties.......I hear the brothers anguish,he's rightly angry and understandable.........but for the sake of the rest of his comrades getting on with the job that has to be done has to be maintained..........it's nothing callous,it's practical,if you lose focus on your objective, then the mind switches off,ans more people will be injured or killed in the process................as one soldier form the BW said today,we'll grieve for our friends when the job has been done, and we'll drink to their memory........and in a small unit such as a UK battalion it's not easy!

From the MoD Op. Telic Website:
It is with great regret that the Ministry of Defence has to confirm that Private Pita Tukutukuwaqa of the 1st Battalion The Black Watch died on 8 November 2004 when his Warrior armoured vehicle was hit by a roadside improvised explosive device. Aged 27, he was married and came from Fiji.
Lieutenant Colonel James Cowan, commanding the 1st Battalion The Black Watch, said on 9 November:
It is with regret that I inform you of the death of one of our soldiers last night. Private Tukutukuwaqa was driving his Warrior armoured vehicle when the device exploded, killing him instantly. Private Tukutukuwaqa was 27 and joined the Black Watch in March 2001. He served with the Battalion in Kosovo and in Iraq last year. He was a trained sniper and an outstanding sportsman.
"He will be dearly missed by his regiment and his friends
"Private Tukutukuwaqa was married and his wife has been notified of the incident. The Black Watch Battlegroup is developing its tactics to counter this sort of attack and has been supported by specialist equipment to assist these tactics.
Our thoughts are with his family at this very difficult time.
A very sad loss, and clearly a soldier of great experience.
N.B. Before anyone jumps on a certain popular bandwagon - The Fijian members of The Black Watch and many other British Army units are fully integrated members of the British Army which they are entitled to join as Commonwealth citizens. Their terms of service are not the same a the British Gurkha units.
