Lt. Col. Steve Dinauer of the Marines, whose troops had seized control of the two Falluja bridges across the Euphrates around midnight, said it was often hard to target the insurgents, even with the advanced thermal-imaging technology his troops possess.

"You got a whole urban frontage, and they just stand back from the window maybe five feet in the shadows and it's very hard to pick them up," he said.

But an insurgent who reveals himself may have made his last mistake.

An insurgent allowed himself to be spotted by the crew manning the Humvee-mounted Gatling gun after his grenade-launcher kicked up enough dust to allow them to see his silhouette in the building. The Americans' high-speed gun fired. "It cut him apart," said a soldier who witnessed the exchange.

Yup, can you say suppressing fire? :D I'm surprised we haven't seen that many pics of them in Iraq, or is it because so few are deployed?

thatguy96
11-09-2004, 08:03 PM
Its probably because of the primary reason we haven't seen them in the past: ammo consumption. A weapon that burns 4000 rounds per minute is simply not practical for deployment on a vehicle that might become involved in a protracted engagement without a definite ability to disengage (like an airplane or a helicopter). I'm sure someone though that in a seige-like engagement such as Fallujah, with logistical support elements readily at hand, the firepower presented by the configuration finally outweighted the cons of deploying such a system.

I would never wish to go back to the area, I was there for the first Gulf War, but I have to be honest in saying a big part of me wants to go back to do my part, to do anything to help my country battle these bastards. My apologies if it sounds corny but thats the best I can put it into words. Again, God Bless to the troops in combat.

NOVEMBER 9: US Marine scouts of the Light Armor Reconnaissance (LAR) look at the damage apprently cause by a mortar November 9, 2004 in Fallujah, Iraq.

Anyone else notice the giant blood splatter next to that mortar hit? That had to hurt..
I think it's from whoever got killed. You can see the body in the background.

Hit the wall then the pole, ouch.

would a 203 leave that kinda hole....? noticed the front man is equipped with one.

no way, if that pile of bloody rags in the background is the person that got blown away, then it must have been a good sized explosive.

Mortar probably, the original poster said so.

Hellfish

I'd guess an 81mm mortar - the holw looks too big for a 60mm and not big enough for a 120mm.

First : excellent job the coaltion is doing

second : Rip for those brave americans , britons and iraqi forces

third : war is ugly .......but

fourth : ......it was necesssary to clean the citiy but I am afraid when the job is done , the US troops go back to their garrison outside Fallujah and leave it too poor armed iraqi police,,then the terrorists will come backl and take he city as they are doing in ramadi. But I hope this will not happen.

fifth : thanks for sharing pics excellent job

While it is not technically a crusade it share a lot of the goals of crusades, such as stopping Islamic attempts to dominate the world and to preserve European way of life. Over the years crusades became terribly misinterprited and became acts of European imperialism instead of desperate fights for cultural survival. Which in the end failed, btw.

And I adore those people.

Trolls who suddenly erupt into peaceful threads with military related pictures with anti-american drivel tend to come from Europe. It just the fact of this board.

Actually most of them come from Scandinavia ;) or should I say a particular country within Scandinavia!!
Must be Canada

Don't you think? :bash:

ya but the only problem is iraqis had nothing to do with it. You invaded the wrong country.

The point is here isn't whether the ieaqis are responsible or not. It's about the THREAT of something like that happening and removing it.

Someone is gonna swing a punch into your face. If you had the chance, do you wait until he hits you, or do you try to take him out first?

Its scary when americans say, " we had to strike first" " Saddam supported the Al Quaida" "Saddam DID have weapons of mass destruction" "the war on Iraq had nothing to do with oil"
and so on.

so stopp calling us Leftist, we just find it funny how all of you blindly believe in the information that pour out of the white house ;)

more than half of the hijackers form the 9/11 plot was Saudi Arabian, so wouldent that be a place to start shutting down the Al Quaida network first?
Or what about North Korea, the actually have nuclear bombs.

But Ok im shutting up. Im here to enjoy the photos as well.

My view of the problem of Saddam is very different from the WH PR. I do hope it is just PR. But I have no doubt that something drastic needed to be done about the ME. And this is the best thing I can think of. First you need a foothold, then you develop it . . .

A racing spoon is for chow; if someone makes it, everyone comes by and and grabs a bite.

Fired .50 a good luck charm; to ward off any bullets smaller than it (or something like that) ;)

Yea so you guys are saying you'd rather support terrorists who kidnap innocent people and behead them on video than supprt the Marines? Regardless of whether the war was justified or not, the reality is Iraq is now a terrorist hot bed. The US invaded and now have a responsiblity to clean up this mess. Let them do their jobs. And what is with this "Go Peace" BullSh*t? Did you mistakenly find yourself on a MILITARY forum by accident?

Always have your racing spoon handy, never know when food is gonna come past and youve got to make sure you get your fill!!

An if that .50 is a charm against bullets smaller than it, Id be humping round a spent 155 howitzer case just to be on the safe side!!!!!
