View Full Version : How to treat a pulled side muscle?

I pulled/strained a muscle in my right side last week, which is seriously affecting my ability to move freely (sneezing or coughing is incredibly unpleasant!). I've used a bit of ice and have rubbed various muscle relaxants into it daily, but nothing has really helped so far.

Any advice on how to proceed here? Bear in mind that I'm no longer in my 20s where muscle injuries heal almost overnight ;)

R - rest

I - ice

C - compression (ACE Bandage)

E - elevation

Keep ice on it at regular intervals, keep in mind, that you should never leave ice on an injury for more than 15-20 minutes at a time.

Old fart.

If you don't mind I think I'll ignore this advice mate :D

Uncle Sam - good advice, but I've been doing all of that already. I guess I really am an old fart 'cause it hasn't helped any at all so far.

Unfortunately there is no magic pill for a pulled/strained muscle. You can take an anti inflammatory and you gotta keep the ice and compression on it and it should feel better in a few days. If not, see your doctor.

a prescription of Anti Inflammatories or muscle relaxers may also help! ;)

There's only one way to heal one of those wounds

T - Time

I - invariably

M - mends

E - excrutiating pain

?????

Those sorts of injuries are a bitch. I've torn muscles in between my ribs before and the only that helped was ice and time.

I once ****ed up some muscles in my arms so bad that I couldn't even lift a beer bottle anymore. :( Ice saved the day.
