The helmet mounted NV device looks cheap and fragile. The american one looks much cooler. :(

And coolness is what you need on today's battlefields. :P

now that you mention it ... the guy doesn't really seem representable

Mikkel

He doesn't even have the newest chest rig thingie, or an AG-36. Not even the mandatory Glock on his thigh.

Maybe he's airsoft?

:P

Definately not Delta though

No, it's not an elcan it's nightvision equipment. this photo was taken during the opening of the marnehuizen mout facility.

The muppet isn't even real infantry he's just there for the press....

It's an NV-scope for the diemaco-weapons. He's fully equiped fo nigth-combat. Is that so hard to see?

The picture seems to be quite old.
-the load-bearing-vest is the older one
-the rucksack has already been replaced with a much better one (in camouflage)

About the comment with the AG36 (@Mikkel);
You want to say every soldier has the AG-36 these days?? This one is just equiped to a few guys in a platoon. So this says absolutely nothing about the picture.

And sidearms (the glock) are (normally) only issued to officers. Normal soldiers don't have them.

edit;
go to the website of the dutch forces in iraq;
www.nldetirak.nl

in the infantry the MAG gunners had a glock and the marksman had one.. dunno if it's still the same..

I'm not saying every soldier should have an AG-36 or an extra side-arm. I'm just saying that if he's posing for a picture supposedly to show off his equipment they should've completed it by adding the AG-36, sidearm, new loadbearing vest and new rucksack.

I guess the double NV optics are quite overkill as well aren't they?

And note the :P in my previous post. ;)

We have better equipment, but the belgians have this funny camo, which makes them look goofy. I prefer the dutch forces anytime, though. But that also becasue I'm dutch :lol:

On the sidearm;
oops, yup; forgot the marksman/sniper and MAG-gunner. Those also have sidearms AFAIK. I'm not sure if the minimi-gunner has a sidearm.

about the double-NV-goggles;
Not that the one on the helmet if for his left eye and the one on the rifle for his right eye (because he's right-handed). This means he can use them together. It's not very usefull to use the rifle-mounted one only, since that means you'll need to aim your rifle just to take a look around. Takes a lot more time than just turning your head.
