I was gonna ask this in a seperate post but this one came up so it was the perfect time. I noticed that the US Marines have simular but not the same cammo pattern, did they buy it from Canada or did they copy it from us. Anyways I go to university in Kingston and there are the cadets at RMC and the military base here and I always see them walking around and when I walk in the summer and see them in the park, its hard to see them at 50 m away but only if there is a green behind them, otherwise its easy to spot them. I hear that the cammo pattern is suppose to be hard to pick out using night vision equipment, is this true?

BTW where was that pic, Afghanistan?

Neither. MARPAT was developed completely seperate from CADPAT. The patterns are very different if you look at them (CADPAT is more lime-greenish, well suited to Canadan terrain, whereas MARPAT is brownish and designed to be more versatile).

it should be harder to see using night vision because of the great difference in tones and brightness. It decreases the brightness profile.

The story behind MARPAT:

Long story short, the designer of MARPAT examined some CADPAT material but they came up with the pattern independently, at no time did Canada help to design the pattern.

That general in the picture is Lientenant General Leslie. He used to be the commander of my land sector when he was a brigadier general. Talked to the guy once on excercise when he was coming around getting feedback about simunition. Funny story about that me and my fireteam partner were enemyforce for an advancing section. And the commanders and media were walking behind them. This was a simmunition ex so when me and my buddy got a chance to shoot the LFCA commander we took it. He wasn't pissed though. Actually complemented us on the good shots.
And yea that picture is from Afghanistan, Gen Leslie is the dep commander of the ISAF mission in Kabul.

Anyways yea the CADPAT was in development since the late 80s and yea it's printed on the inside sort of. It does have good NVG camoflage. Only downside is that some of the companies who stitched the uniforms went for the cheaper type of sewing and some of the uniforms will rip easier.
