No, but if you fired a second one at the same location it would. It 'expended' the armor block.
russian armor sucks .. we have D-9's that can take alot more in the same spot the first 1 hit.....

well considering the 'rebels' are using russian technology i think its a testament to them... they need to install some systems to stop them being used against them though :P

Bull****, in the four years of Intifadah the only time Palestininas have managed to kill members of a Merkava tank crew was by using 100-80 kg explosive charges (show me one tank that can survive that?!).

And Rpg-7 shouldn't penetrate M1 , but is happends . By the way , it penetrated the most soft place of the tank (between turret and the hull) from the side . Not one tank in the world can stand that . Even with the simplest one , AT-3 .

It happends mostly because the RPG hit the shovel , or lower then cabine . It doesn't got to do much with armor .
On Chechnya tank hutner team used to fire consentrate burst of several RPG rounds on weak spots of the vehicle . They also used Tandem warheads , which is pretty effective in Iraq now as you can see . Nothing of that kind (thanks god) is done . Max. it is some one guy who shoot and run .

And just when has an RPG penetrated an M1? I can barely count on one hand the number of M1s that have been lost to enemy fire.

And just when has an RPG penetrated an M1? I can barely count on one hand the number of M1s that have been lost to enemy fire. they have knocked them out by hits to the engine compartments which caused fires if thats what i remember, and there was that one 'golden shot' thing that penetrated a m1, the thing is nothing is as clean cut as "this beats that and that beats this" anymore... it all depends on tactics used and i havent seen any rpg 7's in the gaza strip either only home made rocket launchers
Firefly26

Yeah, those engine compartments aren't where the unstoppable armor is, infact, I doubt they are armored at all, just built with lots of metal in the way of projectiles. That was one of the ones I could count on one hand, I meant to be more specific meaning penetration of the actual armor.

After my revision I meant actual armor penetrations and not mobility kills, which is what all of those photos show. Or abrams' hulks after the demolition airstrikes. And not one crewmember was lost in those photos either.

And crewmen were killed a couple times, such as the one where the turret flew off.

Bison, if you actually BOTHERED TO LOOK, you'd notice that those photos show about 6 individual (and different) tanks. Not bad for taking over a country huh?
And of course the most popular one is Cojone Eh, disabled on Highway 8 to Baghdad. Hit with a couple of sabots, a AGM-65, and a GBU-12 to disable it completely.
RPGs have penetrated M1s in Iraq. Its happened only a few times, but it HAS HAPPENED. Saying that the M1 is invincible is just as ignorant as saying that scores were lost (like bison is trying to imply up there).
By the way that picture with the RPG guy standing next to a Marine M1A1 with a missing skirt is actually photoshoped, the tank took a friendly Hellfire (courtesy of a USMC Cobra).
The turretless tank is an M1A2SEP with the 4th ID, it ran over a pile of 155mm shells burried in the road and was obviously ripped apart. Two of the crew died, so yeah thanks for laughing at it ****head.
i think the abrams photos, showing them all black and totally destoryed is probably because the US sent it's apaches to totally destory it after it was his by RPG-7V or some other rocket..
anyways, no Merkava/D-9 was ever destoryed by a RPG in the intifada... some APCs (m-113) were, RPGs were shot at them while the back doors were opened , and it hit the explosives the m-113 carried.... that made the m-113 a 100kg granade .

If you have to abandond tank and blow it up with airstrike, I would count that as a "kill" :D
btw does 12,7 mm machine gun trigger that armor?
btw does 12,7 mm machine gun trigger that armor?
Well, the 'Kontakt-5' ERA has around 15mm front plate, so if those 12.7mm MG fired API ammo, the answer is yes.

Actually the information I have about the M1 losses during the attack phase there were no penetrations by RPG's. But still tanks were lost due to light weapons damage. One was lost when a sniper hit the driver and tank drove of a bridge, one was lost from friendly Bradley cannon fire and at least one from HMG fire, when it lit the APU fuel and gear on top of the tank.

btw does 12,7 mm machine gun trigger that armor?
No probably not. The incendiary material would probably not be powerful enough to detonate the HE charges.
Two of the crew died, so yeah thanks for laughing at it ****head.
Who laughed?
He started a thread with pictures of a weapon system and some blow hard had to come up with...
russian armor sucks .. we have D-9's that can take alot more in the same spot the first 1 hit.....
Of course when he/she/it states:
and believe me gaza has tons of these rpg-7s
You can bet they are the old PG grenades that when they worked penetrated about 300mm of armour at best and more often 280mm or less.
If you have a problem your love and attention should be directed at Ya2.
Now, back to the thread...bison have you any photos of MICVs with the Drodz-2 active defence system. I notice one of your pics has the ARENA system on the BMP-3 but no pictures of the rival Drodz-2.
