This Christmas me and my family are taking a vacation to Switzerland, and since I live in Florida I have very little in the way of jackets and such.
So I'm taking this opportunity to get me a nice jacket, I'd really like to get something militarish.
I was thinking of getting a USMC Fleece jacket and maybe a PCU level 5 or something to put over it.
Just wanted to know what you thought of this.
I'm also open to any suggestion you guys might have, my Dad says weather in switzerland is very cold and rainy, but we're also going skiing so I'll also be in snow.
Any help would be great, thanks!

All i can think of is a gen 1 or 2 ECWCS goretex parka, you can usually find a gen 1 on the cheap, I just bought one for $10 at a gun & knife show, not a bad price for a goretex jacket, i've yet to try it, but it seems rock solid :D . As for a fleece my favorite is a columbia, but mountain hardware, and the north face are also very good if a bit more expensive, the USMC fleece looks good too though.
According to military morons a PCU isn't completely waterproof, http://www.militarymorons.com/gear/gear.1.html, but i've never seen one or even know of any places online that sell them, though i imagine they cost an arm and a leg.
Also I suggest getting some good gloves with thick nylon outers and a large cinchable gaiter/cuff thing to cover the end of your sleeve and not let snow in, cause that's annoying as hell

REI One Jacket. They kick ass. They are warm, block the wind, repell the water, and are very light - well worth the money. I have a black one that goes very nicely with Royal Robbins trousers and a Paraclete super duper carry everything vest... ;)
Do it.

That one is sweet, but way out of my price range. I'd personally like to get a Wooly Pully for the "cold" here in Fla.

That one is sweet, but way out of my price range.Unless you get something out of a surplus store a good solid winter jacket for proper cold you should expect to make the low end of your pricerange around $200.

your two best bets for outdoor clothing...i have used gear from those places for years from the mole hills of michigan to the mountains of utah
...my thought has always been this...military gear is made for the masses by the lowest bidder...

What a poser post. Give me a break just get a good winter Jacket(down or whatever) from Eddie Bauer or something like that. No need to look "Militarish". James at least rates what he wears,BTW good call on REI!

Hey thanks man!
Can we please not start this? If its what I want, its what I want... I'm trying to look like G.I. Joe, I don't wanna be running around in camo, I just want something that has been proven, thats all.
I'm not old enough to join the military, but I am joining, can we leave it at that?
Thanks fintin, I'll check those out.
Thanks guys! :)
