Hell yea... Lets talk strategy:
I heard this General talk about bombing the outer Iraq, surrounding Baghdad, perform physiological ops on the people to turn against Saddam.. If that fails, last resort would be to send in Rangers/DELTA
If it comes to city fighting you best believe that whoever goes in will have alot of support and protection unlike the Clinton war strategy in Somalia of not allowing armored vehicles or spectre gunships. I hope not but I think that we will probably go into the city to get him and I think that our boys are much much more prepared than before with urban combat. There are still risks involved but I think it is necessary to take risks to get rid of this tyrant.
:) I can tell adambalhetchet watches fox news... I saw the same report. Lots of info from that guy that made sense, which was a welcome change from all the endlessly negative nancy's that have been flooding the air waves. One of the great things that one of the infantry men said was, from inside his APC, he's got a computer screen with a direct predator video feed of the street that they're going to go down. Do you remember in Somalia where they had to relay all that info from the choppers overhead, back to command, then back out to the guy on the street? Now it's all instantaneous.

i don't know why we're wasting time with all this "war" stuff, all we really need is three bullets, one for saddam and two for each of his evil sons.

Politics, my man. I don't think the world would be too happy if we just sent in assassins and capped 'em.

politics smolitics. the only reason we don't kill enemy leaders is because of some stupid old "good manners" bs agreement between kings that agreed they wouldn't kill each other because it would be rude or something.
Carter signed a treaty or something like that banning assassinations, although I feel sure it goes on under the table in some cases.
Well, it can't be said of our enemies. Al Qaeda tried to kill Bill Clinton several times, but Clinton never showed up in the various places in the timeframe that he was supposed to be. Saddam Hussein also tried to have George Bush Sr. killed.
It sounds so simple, the US could send in a small team of special forces and pop a couple of .50 rounds in the forehead of Saddam "The Mad Man" Hussein. In fact, the British SAS, US SOCOM and the CIA agree that it would make life simple. In fact in 1991, just prior to the Gulf War, CIA agents went in and tried to figure out if there was enough unrest within Iraq to have it done from the inside.
What they learned was stunning. Saddam employed over 30 doubles. People who were the public appearance of the paranoid leader of Iraq. In addition, there are actors to represent each member of his family. Some believe that Saddam has not even been out in public since before the 1st Gulf War.
According to reports, we have actually gotten close, bombing both the lead and trail car in a caravan that it was believed held Saddam. Unfortunately, the center car escaped. It is still argued to this day as to if the real Saddam was in the caravan.
My point is that comments like "just forget Ford's anti-assassination order" don't take into account the logistics of hunting down a man who has spent most of his time in power preventing himself from becoming the target of his own tactics. So many people have looked at Saddam as a foolish leader who is ignorant of tactics. That is just not so. He has maintained control of a country in one of the most volatile regions in the world.
If it truly was that simple, the SAS would have done it already. After all, they do not suffer from the stupidity of having once elected a lame duck like President Ford.

"all we really need is three bullets, one for saddam and two for each of his evil sons"
Have you seen History Channel's "Beyond Desert Storm - Why Cant They Kill Saddam" ? You could probably order it from them if you call them ------Like the man said above, its nearly impossible to do so- He has doubles, has his own chef's son taste the food before he eats it, has several palaces, travels in a convoy of cars and no one knows which car hes in, etc.. Its pretty insane. Besides, just killing Saddam I dont think would end everything. It may not get rid of the weapons and his regime. This whole "regime change-rebuild country" sounds like a better idea
"I don't think the world would be too happy if we just sent in assassins and capped 'em"
Hey this kinda reminds me, did you watch that one history channel show where this one CIA operative was working with the Iraqi local militia intending to overthrow Saddam? They ended up not getting the support from the US and nothing happened. What sucked was that the CIA guy was charged for attempted assasination or something. Hmm, what do we have like.. 1 day left? I dont know about you guys but I think this war would make a kick ass movie. BTW, there never really was a "real" gulf war movie right? 3 Kings was post-gulf war

Could you stop for a moment and think about all of the women and men who are going in harms way so that you can sit here and muse about Gulf War II the movie (and video game)? Fine, we all like a good war movie. However lets keep our excitement, over how our fighting forces will look cool getting killed and killing, under wraps out of respect for the ones of us on this board who may soon be going into the unknown or may have loved ones already there. This is serious business. I'm not saying that we shouldn't speculate about strategy and such, just watch how much you start foaming at the mout about movies and such. Saving Private Ryan was made fifty years after the event and was still powerfull and upsetting to the men who landed at Normandy. I know guys who can't watch Black Hawk Down because they were there. Just think for a second about what you're saying, and it's appropriateness, before you press submit. G

I am starting to wonder if saddam was just buying time with destroying those missiles, too sneak others in the back door.

I was just talking to someone about that.
Saddam to the world: Sure we'll destroy the Al Samoud IIs. Don't attack.
Saddam to his aids: We've still got plenty of Al Sammoud IIIs right?

i think that war is necessary, but in this case i actually fear it, does anyone think that we will have terrorist attacks within the week?

God, I hope not. My fiancee and I are coming up with plans to reach eachother in the horrible event that something does happen. I just hope that if I am on base, there will be some way for her to get to me.

see what im thinkin is saddam will be just waiting for bush to declare war and it would be a good bet just to be ready... even tho there is no way to be ready for such an attack

Here's what I think:
All the citizens concerned with this (like YOU) will be fed biased, innaccurate media reports, so that you don't try to intervene with the military, while they go off and do their own thing, being more effective.
Just my opinion.
