Somebody know why they chose the famous tan/green camo for their helmet instead of blue, black or gray to fit their uniform?
Is there a tactical reason?

The helmets the GSG-9 operator of this picture is wearing, have a camostyle that once was issued to the BGS (Federal Border Guards) to which GSG-9 belongs. While the rest of the BGS used other dress-styles after a while, the GSG-9 continued to use the helmets which were issued with this camostyle, for a time. But that has stopped, too by now, as far as I know. In the last television documentary, I saw about this unit, they used combat gear that was all in black, including the helmets, which were also different ones than the one your picture shows. So, I fear, GSG-9 operators looking like this may be a thing of the past now.

That style of camo used to be late-war Wehrmacht issue, and used by the BGS all the way until recently.

Nice pictures. The helmet of the GSG operative (fist picture) looks like a Russian maska helmet? Are they using Russian helmets now? Please correct me.

Their not using Russian helmets. GSG-9 was using that helmet long before the Russians adopted the MASKA helmet, at least since the early 80s (which is when I think the pic dates from).

I think the camouflaged helmet is a Schuberth PB 308 helmet.

The Norwegian police use a similar helmet:

I believe the Russian Maska helmet is a copy of the GSG-9 helmet.

The GSG 9 operator wearing the "sumpftarn"- ("swamp camo") cover is equipped with the TIG-helmet. This models have been replaced a couple of years ago by the new helmet which is produced by "Ulbrichts Witwe", as far as I know an Austrian company. Many of the German Police Special Operation Forces have this helmet in use, too, often with a flecktarn-cover.

Another option is a helmet produced by Schuberth, a German company.
In fact, TIG-Helmets are still in service at other German Police special forces or specialized forces, as the pictures in one of the last posts show.
