They should have bought Land Rovers. I have an EX MoD SIII 24v 109" RHD, and I intend to impoert one of the MoD defenders here before too long. Land Rovers are the best 4x4 vehicles in the world.

The MB diesels in the Norwegian army BV-206's originaly couldn't take cold (some sort of leak) before post-sales modifications .
The Swedish BV's use petrol engine I think and appeares to have been relatively trouble free in winter compared to the Norwegian ones. On the other hand I've seen pics of a Swedish 206 catching fire from some mechanical fault or another :|.

Toyota...no wonder its the option for US SF operating in Afganistan.
In such unforgiving landscape as found in the Afgan mountains the locals will only drive vehicles which survive. If anyone knows than they do. No prices for guessing what they are driving and.... yes Toyota is proud of that their brand is shown every time you see the Afgan population driving.

What do you expect. It's the internet. You should know that!
I personally would like to buy and convert a Toyota Tacoma 4-door for personal use. They are reliable, and quite nice.

That sounds like a Toyota Hilux. They're good trucks, but that's not the only thing people use over here.

Which model is the Hi-Lux, exactly? They do not market them here, sadly. I'm going for more utility than anything. I'll take wicker seats form a FIAT if I need to.
I understand it isn't the only one used, but what are the other choices? Any UAZ's or Ural's?

Close family member of mine was issued a brand new Toyota Hi Lux two years ago. Took it off-road in the soft portuguese sand and we were both amazed what it got itself out of..time and time again.
Toyota might be the obvious choice but LRD's are just too beautiful to refuse. "Life is too short to drive a toyota"

I read this in the Toronto Star the other day, quite odd. Hopefully this has no permenant damage on the structure overall but it just shows that Mercedes Benz has gone down in quality. The Canadian Army should develop its own vehicle, bigger then the Iltis and more useful too. Or even buy more Ford or GM vehicles that are made here in Canada. Put some armour on them...
or just take the cop cars from scarborough... p-)

I tend to agree that if it is within the capapbility of a nation to do so, they are better off developing thier own weapons in most cases, especially if they have highly tailored needs.
