What do you think about him? I used to like his non-fiction books but never really liked his fiction books.

I've read all of Clancy's books... what are some other authors that write along these lines?

I agree, I used to read Clancy, but he has been replaced by Vince Flynn.

I liked Clancy to begin with. But over time the quality of his writing has IMHO degraded and lapsed into crapiness.

Red Rabbit and Teeth Of The Tiger were craptastic, the stuff before I didn't mind.

I thought "Without remorse" was awesome.

He should write a book about SF in Iraq, 'the man who wasnt there'

You underestimate this man . He is a genious . In his first fiction books you can see clue for things like 9/11 , attack on Pentagon , things that going on now in Afganistan and Iraq . His analise of things is sharp , and if he could base on real persons , he could predict things to come with pretty good margin of error . Offcorse he have to make his books more sexy and interesting , so his books are dramatising events , but never the less .

But , unfortunatly his last books has felt into crappiness .

Ralph Peters' fiction is much better, I think.

Clancy seems to be getting worse, but it could be that I first read him hen I was 16 or so, and now I'm 31. Maybe I'm just getting snooty.

I like them, but they seem to take all fvcking year to get the plot together. There is a lot of unecessary detail, like some fvcking o-ring in some part of some nuclear reactor in some Russkie sub that managed to break. Ok, we get the fvcking point, SOMETHING BROKE!

my 2 cents...

It was pretty good back with Red October and Red Storm Rising. Some of his recent work however...

Maybe he ran dry of inspiration since he can't speculate on Soviet arsenals anymore.

He did a couple of books about different US military formations (Marines, Airborne, submarines, etc) which are pretty informative.

My beef with Clancy is the endings...he builds up stories rather well, has some sweet action (generally....there are a few SLOOOOOW books) but then its as if he just says "Screw it, I am done" and winds up the story in fast forward. Example: Rainbow Six. Well paced, well developed, but the end engagement (if you call it that) was so damned brief and disappointing......almost enough to totally ruin the book, but not quite.

Without Remorse, however, was excellent.
