what an incredible passenger aircraft, but unfortunately what a failure. The sound and cost of these aircraft is just too much.

hmmm ... a failure you say ... i take it you're saying that because it's been in business since 1976, which obviously makes it a dismal failure. I mean it's only been operating for around 26 years.

This wouldn't be her (well their) last flight coming up if BA just sold them to Branson (he's really behind them... Made TV programmes trying to change BA's/Goverment's minds) (Virgin Atlantic) for the price they bought them off of the Government back in the '60s/'70s... £1 each!

yes, operation for 26 years and then stopping altogether because of high cost would make the concorde a failure. will there be a newer version of the concorde which will do the same work the original did?

Don't forget the Concorde crash in 2000. Afther that there have been some other incidents, so I'm pretty sure they're also retiring them out of safety precautions.

The Concorde proved itself to be 'economically unviable', especially after the crash of an Air France Concorde near Charles de Gaulle airport on July 25, 2000, killing 113 people. Prior to that, it's safety history was unmatched.

The Concorde program, operated by both France and Britain, has been a state-subsidized enterprise, rarely able to make a profit. Only now, during it's final week, are record passenger numbers expected.

I too believe that the British Gvt. should allow Virgin Atlantic an opportunity to show how private ownership can make supersonic air-travel an economically viable experience.

In the past the French even resorted to publicity stunts:

"On 2nd April 1996 Pepsi Cola launched their new 'livery.' Air France
Concorde F-BTSD in the new Pepsi colours visited ten European and Middle
Eastern cities. Celebrities Claudia Schieffer, Andre Agassi and Cindy
Crawford assisted at the launch held at London Gatwick Airport.
Contrary to press reports, the paint whitstood supersonic flight. The
aircraft was restored to Air France colors after two weeks"
