Beerenfenger, serving with 3rd Battalion, the Royal Canadian Regiment Battalion Group, were killed while on a patrol a few kilometers from Camp Julien, 2 October. There are currently 1,220 Canadians maintaining the peace in Bosnia-Herzegovina as part of NATO's Stabilization Force (SFOR).
