That's an easy mistake to make if you're not fully paying attention. Similar names, similar dot-camo, similar helmets, similar guns...

Maybe ZentrumJagdkampf,Scaar or Glock can correct me but if I remember well they abandonned the "pea" pattern in 70's because of it's resemblance to the IInd WW german patterns often associated with nazis. This was similiar reason that delayed introducing of the flecktarn pattern to the German BW. Austrians also wanted to expres their neutral policy - even now I think they introduced new plain khaki desert uniform for it peacekeepers instead of using US 3color one as it was earlier.
And old Austrian camo is a very good one for fall forest in central europe. Although when I wore it once with fieldcap I realized that well known associations are almost instant.

Well , I don't really get that , but each to his/her own , I suppose.
It might resemble some German WWII camouflage pattern , but yet , it isn't the same.
I wouldn't really have any problems marching around wearing that camouflage , but alright , I wouldn't be the first to call myself a Nazi either because of it's resemblance to some German WWII pattern.
I mean , to think of the logic behind that. But alright , some people would be willing to call anyone Nazi's even if their national army would be having something resembling a German WWII pattern as their camouflage.
And what's even more "mind-boggling" , is the fact that the Austrians get all jacked up about it and possibly change their pattern due to this. I mean , if it's a perfectly working pattern , then why can't it be used ?!
Because it resembles a German WWII pattern ?
Damn , like anyone's going to care about that when the bullets start flying and freakin' 20 divisions of paratroopers start falling from the sky. If the pattern works, and isn't an exact copy of the German pattern , then hell , keep it.
Austrians also wanted to expres their neutral policy - even now I think they introduced new plain khaki desert uniform for it peacekeepers instead of using US 3color one as it was earlier.
Yeah , if they would've shown up with US 3 - color deserts their allegiance would've popped up. But , still , I don't get the whole Neutral policy if it also is somehow connected to this particular camouflage pattern.
I mean , it still isn't the exact pattern. It's almost like if someone would start giving us the proverbial "****" because the newer Norwegian patterns resemble our M/91 and M/62 fabric's slightly..
But alright , I understand that the German patterns also have something of a negative image on them due to their actions of their wearers , but the Austrian pattern still wasn't an exact copy.
But hey , the Austrians look cool in OD as well. Very cool , in fact..

I suppose it's because it's Austria, who had the Anschluss with Nazi Germany, and they are still very conscious about associations with Nazi symbols. It does look similar to a fall oakleaf pattern smock from WW2.

Dalleer, your point of view is simply diffrent - as a Finn you probably dont have some associations that some of Central europeans have - swastika, some kinds of headgear (feldmutze for instance), and several others things are instantly associated with Nazis here. Its the ever-present history, movies - generally certain "image" well set in the common sense.
We, people "into" military history may see these things diffrently, being aware of several factors - effectivness, pourpose and so on, I know Israelis admiring some of German WW2 gear, but at the same moment fully aware of its additional meanings.
So its really unadvisable to wear some gear associated with "the electricians" (common name for SS because of their thunder runic insignia) in countries that have a long memory. ;)
