Once Sadaam and his regime are taken out, what do you guys expect the peoples response to be? Welcome support for the troops liberation or violence and anger? If in fact they do respond in a negative way, what will or can we do about it?

I think if they do respond in a negative way we could make about 3 billion parking lot spaces over there. :D Really i think the only way it could be negative is becuase the the propaganda. Once they see what really is going on and see some changes the US will be welcomed over there.

I think the overall response will be positive. Some Iraqis in the south near Basra may need a little more attention, since we kinda left 'em last time to be repressed. They're probably thinking twice before letting us in completely. One person on foxnews described Basra as Missouri: Show Me that you're here to help. But I think a lot of pressure will be relieved when this is all over. p-)

what'll make all the difference, is if we can quickly show them what life is like without sanctions. bring back all the luxuries and they'll eat it up.

When their children are eating full delicious meals every day, they will think USA. When they are sitting in cafes chatting freely about their personal opinions, they will think USA. And when they go to bed at night wondering why now there is motivation to wake up tomorrow, they will think USA.

Too bad a lot of people in the USA don't feel that way.

Take heart Hood, it's NOT a lot of people. It's a small fraction of the population. The majority of us know the real deal. woot

From what I've seen so far in Umm Qasr, the people are practically having an orgasm over this. I think Sulph8 pretty much summed it up.

Date 26th of March.

Sorry... do not be offended. But I got the feeling this war is not going well. The Iraqi people seem not to feel very enthusiastic about their liberation. A certain "iraqi nationalism" seems to be on the rise. If this happens the coalition has a problem.
I hope I am wrong. The war is only one week old after all. We will see what happens...

Iraqi nationalism is "rising" in the non-liberated areas because if they speak out against the regime, they go bye-bye. Watch the videos of the people from Umm Qsar and Basra among other places. They look decently happy.

You have to remember most of these Iraqis remember what happened in 1991 when they revolted at our urging and then we left them to get slaughtered. I can definantly understand their apprehension. Plus thirty years under a ruthless dictator, many of them probably do not know what it is like to live free so there also might be some shellshock in some cases. Give it time. I'd certainly be a bit reluctant to dance in the streets if I had spent my whole life being controlled by a violent dictator who would have his minions kill me if I spoke out against him, then one day I'm free to say whatever I like. We're only a week in, this is a long process. Let's give it some time before we start labeling this war a success or failure.

I hate to use the terms shock and awe since they've become such a catch-phrase in the media. But I am in awe of the speed with which we've done all this. 7 days is a very short time span. I just have to shake my head and wonder what people are thinking when they say 'oh, gee, this isn't going well' (I don't mean you Kitsune, just media people in general) I guess they thought Tommy Franks would snap his fingers and the Iraqi army would turn to dust. You have to give them a little time.

When the huge amounts of food and medicine aid start rolling into Umm Qasr, then you'll see genuinely happy people. Right now we're scraping out the bad stuff, but we haven't put in the new good stuff yet. So right now their's just that void/emptyness which isn't necessarily better than what they had before. The 4th infantry of 30,000 troops is leaving for Iraq in the next day or so. They're the most advanced high tech division that we have. Right now we'll only running on half strength. Imagine doubling the fighting force with an insane amount more armour suddenly in theater. Good times are coming.

One bad kickback one gets when attacking a country is that its inhabitants tend to rally up around their leaders. No matter how evil evil evil he is. They tend to think in times of crisis; "My country, right or wrong".
So that the Coalition aint't marching on roses towards Baghdad should not come as a surprise.
