Saw this on another site. I went to Thailand during Cobra Gold one year. Pretty amazing vids..

I won't steal their bandwidth...bad things happen when you do that. Check this thread and the vids within.

server space and bandwidth is rather cheap these days. it's on a partial T3 connection, so it's whatever the pipe can hold.. which is quite a bit. :)

I heard that the force of the quake was equivalent to 1000 atomic bombs. Certain parts of Singapore, where I'm from could even felt the tremors.

When you are in home , wearing the warm clothes , having a hot chocolate , sufing the net , did you think about the other place of your Earth ? War , Tsunami , Disaster , SARS... plague all around the world , those things make me feel unsafe and horrible , and the human amoral behavior make me feel sick , it seems like a film "The Day After Tomorrow" is happening , and the end of the world is coming ... so why we still sit in home and not care about our Earth ?

hood
12-28-2004, 04:21 AM
Well, I'm not sure what caring more about the Earth would have done. Nothing we're doing on teh surface is going to change techtonic plate shifts that have occurred for millions of years.

Do you understand how an earthquake happens?

Um not a dam thing you can do to prevent it. Has nothing to do with how we take care of the earth.

And no the world is not coming to an end. I ask you to look back to the 1600's and even just 30 years ago, the world was alot closer to ending than it is now :D

Yeah the ones from the tsunami seemed more about sheer volume of water, even after the wave crashed, whereas that surfer guy's wave ended up mostly in spray towards the end... Nothing real behind it past the crest.

It seemed kinda wierd that the camera man didn't follow the two falling men though. :bash:

BTW, I read how the waves grow as they reach the shore, so like fishing boats way out in the ocean wouldn't have been extremely damaged or what?

Seemed odd to me that the jerk with the camera didn't try to save the two being swept away. Rather than put down the camera and help...he instead videotapes floating furnature. Like that TV news guy in that video from a few months back - he's taping at an intersection and there's a gawdaful crash - and rather than run over and try to help, the asswad stands there and says "there's been a terrible crash - probably some people hurt...."etc...and does nothing. At times like that - the actions of one person can make all the difference - each of us is all we have to depend upon. Put down the camera and help for chrissakes.

Family missing
"Missing parents & 2 brothers. Karl Nilsson" The sign says, Karl Nilsson, 7, lost his whole family at the beaches of Khao Lak.

Apart from the natives from the countries that was hit by the tsunami Sweden is overrepresented in the statistics over missing persons with over 2000 missing at this time..

My thoughts are with all the families down there, native or tourists, fighting to survive and to to find their lost loves.

Ships at sea more than likely don't even know a tsunami just passed under them. The wave base is very deep out at sea. The problem is when the ocean starts get shallower and meets land. All that water suddenly needs a place to go.

See instructions above. If you direct link to it, people will get p/o'd and likely swap out the pictures for something even more disturbing. Direct linking passes an http referfer in the http header and tells the hoster where you are coming from. Whereas, typing the direct url (copy that and paste directly) into your address bar above doesn't forward an http referrer.

Easy to second guess in hindsight.

We'd like to THINK we'd go and help, but how many of us would actually think about it.

When people see bad things happen, there tends to be a disconnect between our minds and our bodies. This is why you see people stand there gaping at their impending doom.
