The way those rocks are stacked up it seems as though it would be fairly easy to spot because it is directly beside the road but then again what do I know I am not there...

You gotta hand it to them, it was a well executed ambush.

They did not detonate the IEDs and instead used RPGs to carry out the attack. Yes they got ambushed but not according to the plan.

Column moved from unexpected direction and catched them unprepared. See maps.

The ambush was badly planned, badly prepared and badly executed. It therefore went badly wrong (**** up).

If it was properly planned, a location with observation and fire over all possible approaches would have been chosen. If it was properly prepared the OP and IED's would have been concealed and would not have been spotted by the convoy. If it had been properly executed, the killing group would have effectively initiated or they would have laid low and not initaited as the convoy was stronger/better prepared than expected.

Royal, is it quite common now for "after action" type "incident reports" to include digital images?

I found it useful to see a format using something other than just the basic grids, symbols, and text we've used in the classroom.

Very common indeed.
